quick question on the GTO LS1
#3
I think just the way it's packed in there. Like the difference between the Camaro and the Corvette. Just the way the air goes in, and the exhaust goes out. 350hp and 365ft/lbs.
I'm not 100% though.

The GTO has true duals from the factory, hi flow cats as well I think. Also the air gets into the engine from an air dam under the front of the car. Pontiac has a nice website for the GTO, right Here. Very well done site. Should have the answers you are looking for. BTW, its supposed to have a cam that has a slightly more aggressive profile then previous LS1's, not sure if that applies to the y-body as well.

I'm pretty sure it was a matter of not wanting to change the body piece more than anything. The exhaust is 'extended' and made to unmatched length to get resonation and get the correct sound they were looking for. It would have easy to make the exhaust come out separate sides, but I think they didn't want to do the bodywork. Considering that as soon as HSV (the high performance Holden subsidiary) puts a dual exhaust on the Monaro it gets outlets on both sides, and the complaints , I would guess it will get dual outlets soon.

The new GTO is definitely a cool car! We've been running around in ours for a few weeks now, and it's an absolute blast. When you do get under one, don't think that those are four cats. The rear ones are just hollow chambers, I assume to help with the sound of the car. It does have a nice sound for a factory system. Very little of the car was changed from the Holden version, so I would agree that they didn't want to mess with a different trim piece on the back. We have a prototype cat-back exhaust system in the works for the GTO. We will actually have preliminary dyno numbers in the next 45 minutes. Our exhaust manufacturer has the car for a few days to get the system fabbed up, and it should be delivered back to us in the next 30 minutes or so. We can't get it on the dyno soon enough.
Keep your eyes peeled for various Texas Speed & Performance parts for the GTO. We have a few different items in the works as we speak, including forced induction.
