Question Gapping of TR55 Spark Plugs

Hi everyone;

I am going to have my stock plugs changed with a set of TR55, and I notice that they come gapped at .050. I believe the stock plugs are gapped at .060.

Do I need to re gap the TR55's to the stock specs?

Thanks in advance.

I put some 55's in my TA during the header install and i gapped mine around .055.. Thats what they told me to do.. Also from what i heard is that they should be pre-gapped (out of the box) but man i found some gapped at .053 to .062 so im glad i checked mine. Just my .02

depends on your mods, if your stock keep it close to the .060 gap. im running .055 and i've run .050 before.

Hey JRP, thanks for the note. Can you explain just a little so I know why I would want mine at .060 rather than .050. You know I am trying to learn here. Thanks.

ngk plugs call for a .050-.055 gap. if you stick with oem plugs keep the .060 gap.

I have usually run a .050 gap with the NGK's when I was N/A, I think .060 is a pretty big gap for stock ignition.

I also run mine @.050, however for the best possible performance you should run the widest possible gap that won't give you misfires. The larger the gap the hotter the spark, thus the more fuel you can ignite. I have friends running basic bolt-ons, headers etc. with no misfires running @.060.

I just don't want to have to swap my plugs out again anytime soon.

My vehicle is stock, with minor bolt ons, lid, smooth bellows, ported MAF ends, nothing heavy.

I guess I should go with a gap of .050 ?

That is what mine likes with the NGK TR55. You gonna do them yourself? If you have the stock exhaust manifolds, #8 is a biiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaatch.

Thanks for the tip, that is what I have been told, I am going to let a reputable shop install them.
