Default do the ls1 427 have distributor problem

Just got an ls1 motor that i'm planning on stroking to 427. Me and a buddy was talking to an old timer about the build and he told me not to build that motor because they have a problem with snapping the distributor do to the stress of that motor. Told me i need to build an older motor. It was the first I heard of this and want to know is that common or is he just not wanting me to build that motor.

...there is no distributor

that guy clearly has no clue and is thinking of the lt1 optispark (pos)

but you aren't going to get a 427 out of a ls1, going to need to go bigger, I suggest you start doing a lot of research and reading

true but they carb and ruin everything or use handheld tuners because they don't know what they are doing with new stuff

it is my understanding the ls1 stroker kits stay under 400 ci without having the block bored and sleeved which is discouraged by most builders

pretty sure the 427 kits are for larger lsx engines but I could very well be wrong

thunderstruck said it best. Pick up a few books. browse a few forums, and get in touch with a few sponsors that sell kits. 427 is not a good idea on a ls1 block. Chevy ls1 / ls6 v8s is a good one as is the newer editions for the 04+ motors.

what do you have? block? longblock? shortblock? if you plan on a from scratch stroker build you could likely sell a ready to use ls1 longblock for enough to get a l92 block that would allow your 427 build

or shoot for a 383 stroker kit for your ls1 block, good set of heads and cam with all the bolt ons and it will be healthy

what are your goals for the car?

i think you mean LS7 if it is a 427CI. LS1 is a 346CI. both run coil packs from the factory. not a distributor

What kind of power goals do you have? A 370ci-383ci is a good size in a stock LS1 block. Anything over that, and a new block would be a much cheaper idea, then trying to sleeve an LS1 block.

6s in the 1/8th should be easy if you get a light car

something 3000-3200 lbs and a strong heads and cam ls1 should do, so a stroked ls1 would make it cake

whats wrong with a 383?

A 383 is your best bet w/ a nice set of heads and cam u can hit 6's in the 1/8 w/ no problem.
