You would see no benefit by using no t-stat at all.
Personally, I don't care for the 160°F units either in most cases. The stock 187°F or an aftermarket 180°F would be the best choice for most applications (with revised fan settings).

i got one a long time ago, but in the end, through advice and learning about our cars, it ended up being tuned to right around 180 degerees. Unless ur heavily modded and really need the extra cooling power, i wouldnt waste ur money man.

I went back to the stocker, after putting in a better radiator.
The thermostat does nothing for controlling the max coolant
temp and all you get is a wider swing in operating temperature,
to try and tune against. Fans and a decent rad will solve your
high temperature problems, 'stat will not.

I have a 160 stat ....
no problem on the track or daily driving with heavy heat of the city
180 and 160--- both are good, if you have the following
Distilled water dexcool
Flush cooling system
Engine oil viscosity with good
Clean radiator

2) Do you have forced induction of some sort, or much higher compression than stock? If not, keeping temps at 180 wouldn't be of any benefit. A stock compression, NA LS1 will run it's best in the 190-205 range.

In general, you want a nice hot combustion chamber with a cool air intake charge. It's hard to keep the intake charge cold while keeping the heads hot, but N2O will cure that.

What temp is the stock thermostat?
