Default How to start??

I have a 2001 SS Camaro that I got last summer. The only thing I've added to the car is black Z06 Wheels. It's all stock and I don't know where to start with new mods. Any ideas????

Depends on where you want to go with it, but a lid and catback would be a cheap upgrade to give it a different attitude.

You should really figure out what you want your end goal to be before you start throwing mods at it. This way you can work towards that goal. That and just do alot of reading and reseach.

I'm looking to shoot for something i can notice in performance. I'm not looking to have the fastest car but something to have fun in. It only has 25,000 miles on it, I'm the second owner of the car and later down the road I'm looking to put a pro charger on it. Just don't know where to start and trying to get some ideas.. Thanks

personally i dont see the full slp kit to be worth it all. just cut out the bottom of your air box to allow more air into the box, k&n air filter to flow more air, then the slp lid to be less restrictive.

I've always been a preventive failure kinda guy. Before I look to add power I always upgrade what needs to be upgraded to handle that power. You need to think about what you want to do with the car. Are you going to start drag racing? Just a fast street car? Street/Strip car?

Research through the site. Internal forum/ external. Stickies all the way at the top. That will be your best source of information.

When your done doing research and want to save money. Classifieds section is the way to go.

Lid, headers, exhaust, and a tune will benefit anything you do down the road and still give you a decent bump in power. If it's a manual, a short shifter like the Pro 5.0/LSS or the MGW setup is also another thing that is beneficial and works with whatever you do in the future.

Suspension's also a great place to start, and a lot of it (SFCs, LCAs, shocks, springs, and sway bars) will be beneficial to overall handling and drag racing.

Start with your wallet - If it's deep, build a 500 + horse street monster.

If not, do what makes you feel better. Like exhaust(it sounds niccce), suspension(look, it looks cool), wheels tires(same as the last 1).

The list goes on.

I did full induction bolt ons with a partial tune for now. I am going to get the car actually tuned when I get my exhaust on. Tuning and exhaust is probably the biggest gains for the money if done right. Unless you want to jump right into internals like heads and camshafts.

I notice a huge difference with what ive done.

I got the car down .6-.8 in the quarter and went from right at 100 to 106mph.

The slp ram air was probably the most noticeable single mod I did. The car ran better all together.

I haven't gotten mine lowered in the front but I just did the slp strut tower brace and rear eibach pro kit with slp bilstein shocks and its not a huge difference, not expecting the front to improve it all that much.

As the other guys have said. Figure out what you want to do and work from there. If you have no idea than start with a lid, Long tubes, and a catback exhaust. After this get a tune and depending on the year, you'll be at around 320-330 whp. That should wake the car up and make her sound real good. After that I would do some springs an shocks. Lower her an inch and get yourself a good pair of drag radials. I prefer Mickey thompson but others have had luck with nittos and hoosier.

After that you really need to start researching and figuring out what you want to do. The more you learn about the car and your goals, the more money you will save

Sounds like you might want to become an auto X 'er so start with suspension stuff. Oh and ditch the Z06 wheels, IMO...

If you are an autocrosser, you might wanna look into some konis and strano springs.

Agreed.

I also agree with this. I have a Hurst-Billet Shifter and enjoy every second of shifting with it.

I don't have any experience with the other shifters/setups Element mentioned, but I know the Pro 5.0 is very popular and any of the others would be a tremendous improvement over the sloppy factory shifter.

Agreed, as well.

My first mod was a Catback Exhaust System. It gives you a performance boost as well as adding a new sound to your ride. That gets my vote.

This would fall under a Performance Boost for your Engine, so for your #2 Mod, add something to your car under a different category. For example: Rear Lower Control Arms for your suspension.

If you continue adding Performance Parts in this manner, you'll have a great performing and very well put-together machine.
