Default Casting number confusion - newbie needs help

Just came across a smoking deal on a Gen III motor out of a low mile rolled half ton. The problem I'm having is with the casting numbers and if I'm looking in the right spots. Its an iron block with aluminum "706" heads which should indicate a 4.8 motor. On the passenger side front corner of the block, there is a very clearly marked casting of LQ4. On the drivers side of the block, on the front, it's marked in huge casting numbers 4.8 and 5.3 below that.

The VIN on the truck decodes as a 2005 4.8 motor but all the research I've found so far shows LQ4 as a 6.0 motor. Really confused right now.

Am I reading things incorrectly?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember seeing "LQ4" stamped on any blocks....it is cast into the block, or engraved, etc??? I'd tend to trust the driver's side front where it says 4.8/5.3, since all of those blocks I've seen had that right there, and the 6.0L blocks says "6.0L" in that spot!

Its a raised casting on a pad right in front of the cylinder head on the block - passenger side. It has a number and a letter preceding it, than a very clear "LQ4" followed by a clock/sundial marking. This is the first Gen III motor I've worked with and am not real familiar with the markings.

It was sold to me as a 4.8, but the LQ4 marking grabbed my attention. It's still fully dressed and the transmission is still bolted to it.

Are there any other casting marks I should be looking for?

It runs awesome and I don't want to yank it apart to determine displacement.

Thanks for your help.

Is the pan on it still??? Could grab the crank casting number if not, and that'll tell ya! What casting # on the heads (not that they couldn't have been swapped)?

Heads are 706 which are 4.8 only I believe. I have to pull the pan to swap in a GTO pan which I have yet to find. Shows how smart I am - never even thought of the crank casting. Now I look like a dumb newbie... LOL.

Thanks for all your help.

You wouldn't have a recommendation on where to pick up a LS2 GTO oil pan, pick up, dipstick etc.? Would you believe GM won't sell GTO stuff to Canadians. I even called a few U.S. dealerships and they won't ship it up either. The explanation I keep getting is because the car was not sold up here and they don't want clones being built.

Haven't got that far yet... I'll wait until I track down a GTO pan. In the meantime I need to make some room in the garage. Here's a link to my ride.
