Default LS1 vs LS2

If I were looking at another car that supposedly had a crate LS2 put in, how would I spot the differences between the LS2 and LS1? I am not that familiar with them but looking at pics of crate engines online I am finding that they look alot alike so what can I look for without having to find casting numbers or crawl under the car. Is there a large physical difference I can see from under the hood?

No physical difference in size or material from an LS1, you need to verify it has 6.0 stamped on it, and that its made of aluminum or verify the casting number. It should have 243 heads but those could be put on an LS1 so thats not failsafe.

Gonna be right below one of the heads on the block in the triangle area. Dunno if its on the front or the rear of the block though

Interesting, out of curiosity I checked my car because I have only had it a couple of weeks and the dealer didn't know what was modified and I have 243 stamped on my heads. No 6.0 on the block though, that I could see from under the hood anyway.

I need to have someone more familiar with LSx vehicles look over my car!

6.0 will be cast in the block on the left front (behind the PS Pump) below the deck.

Well for 100% sure I have the 243 heads, which from what I have read could have come off of a LS2 or LS6 and the only way to tell is the springs?

Still can not see the 6.0 stamp or 5.7 stamp but I am having it put on a rack to change the o2 sensor out finally. I can get to the sensor but the connector is hidden behind some frame piece that I can not get to so on a lift it goes. I will check it out then.

With the SLP lid, LT headers, straight pipes, and the 243 heads what kind of hp estimates am I looking at?

I am going to take it to get dyno'd once I fix the sensor issue but just curious what kind of numbers I could expect if it is a LS1?

There should be a casting # at the rear of the block on the driver side (if facing motor, left side) towards the back near where the trans would mate to it. I do not remember what # meant which but do a google search for LS1, LS6, LS2 engine block #'s

I can not tell if it has a cam, not by the sound anyway. I will try to do a video tonight and post it. You guys know way more than I do so maybe you can tell if it does have one by hearing it.

Would be nice. I got the car at a great price and besides the dash being cracked and a few spots on the paint it is in great condition. I knew the exhaust was modified but to find out that it has these bonuses makes it even sweeter!

To someone not familiar with the sound, anything under 224 .580 114 would be hard to catch depending on where it idled, etc.
