VIN codes for LS1's and 6Speed?
I am doing a search for a salvaged LS1, 2, 3 car with a 6 Speed, what VIN digit(s) am I looking for? I need a six speed and a any LS(x) engine.
I am actually looking at a Corvette 7.0 but need to know if it has a 6Speed.
1G1YY26E965100306 VIN

The above is correct, nothing in the VIN specifies trans type. However, in your case, you mentioned a "7.0 Corvette", assuming that it's a factory 7.0L car, that can only mean one thing: Z06. And Z06 can only mean one trans type: 6-speed manual. No other trans type was offered in a Z06. And the 7.0L did not come stock in anything but a Z06.

What car companies do is use the RPO codes to describe what options that particular car with that particular VIN came equipped with from the Factory. Anything done at the Stealership will not be listed so its always good to keep documentation just in case.
One thing I also found funny was back in the 3rd Gen Days was that no 3rd Gen Fbody that came equipped with a 350 TPI motor had a T-5 5 Speed, only 700R4's and the 305's had the T-5's. Also that if a rear end had drum brakes, almost a certainty that it was a open differential. Also in the 4th Gen days with Automatics, if you did not have the selector avalible for 1st gear, you had 2.73's equipped from the factory.
So when buying a rare car, its definitly good to know what your looking for and where to find it.

This is true, but only for certain years during the LT1 era. I'm not exactly sure what year it stopped, but by the LS1 introduction in 1998, this was no longer the pratice.
