Default Headers Ground Clearance Questions

I have a friend with a 2000 TA, same thing as mine. He has pacesetter longtubes & his hang somewhat low. My car, however is lowered, not exactly sure how much, it was like that when I bought the car. Does anybody have experience with headers on a lowered f body? I don't really want to, but should I go with shorties? Thanks in advanced for any help.

Don't do shorties waste of $$. Usually if the car is lowered the headers will sometimes scrape on speed bumps and up steep driveways. My car in the sig has hooker headers and OR Y 3 in and usually its fine unless I go over some speed bumps too fast. Steep driveways are usually not a prob for the exhaust but the deflector on the bottom seems to love scraping those. Dont go shorties do headers and if clearance is that much of an issue raise the car back up.

My car is lowered also with lts. I definitely scrap on all speed bumps and occasionally when entering into parking lots that have a humped entrance. But if you're real careful and avoid these things you wont have problems.

Just go slow over speed bumps and hit them at an angle and you'll be fine. Hit steep driveways at an angle too coming and going. My headers have only one tiny ding on them. It is usually my cats that scrape....

The tuck-up really varies, is not something most header
manufacturers talk about (though some are rightly proud
of doing it well). Check the External Engine section, much
to wade through but worthwhile.

I have Jet-Hots and the headers are fine but the Y-pipe
sucks. It is the lowest point on the car and you can see
it sticking down from the street. I can lift the car by this
with the floor jack, there's no help for it.

Shop wisely, shop slowly, and if possible find a real life
example. Or at least, a low-angle side picture from a
customer install so you can look for scrapers.

Yeh don't do shorties. My pacesetters haven't ever been a problem at stock ride height.

+1 for the Pacesetters. I had their long tubes and Y pipe and it was crazy low.

On my TA with the same drop, I have American Racing Headers/Y and its a much nicer tuck.

That is part of the reason I have ARH.

I have hooker long tubes with a tsp y-pipe. I have no issues at all with ground clearance. if you are looking at pacesetter or hooker get the tsp y-pipe you can adjust it up or down for you clearance. I would recommend if you go with tsp to go out and buy the band style exhaust clamps and throw away the old style ones it comes with. the band style clamps with help with you ground clearance
