Question 2001 SS New headers Big Problems PLZ HELP!

Hello and thank you for your support! I recently bought a 2001 camaro ss 6 speed. About a month after I bought it I decided to put a new clutch and OBX Header/cat kit in it. The car used to run and sound great. Job done but with a couple issues. First off, the last exhaust manifold bolt back on the drivers side is snapped off flush in the head, which we did not fix....is causing an exhaust leak , but the bigger issue is that my car is not fast anymore! Louder but not as Fast anymore. Ive gotten several suggestions ranging from it being caused by the leak to me needing to reprogram the computer. The car was all stock and was very fast please share your thoughts on my problem and foolow up techniques to adding headers , hi flow cats and flowmaster muffler.I truly appreciate your help . Thanx!

If it has an exhaust leak like you described, then that is probably why you are down on power.

Remove the broken bolt with an easy-out then get a tune and your car will run much stronger.

If you can get at the bolt to drill a hole in it to insert an easy-out then you can remove the bolt without pulling the head. A 90* angle head drill works well in this situation since there usually isn't much room to get at it. Either a mail order computer tune or a local dyno tune is needed to adjust for the added flow of the headers.

My guess is that exhaust leak is causing the o2 sensor to read lean and the pcm is dumping fuel to that bank creating power loss.... Is your fuel mileage worse.....

Ya it does seem a bit worse. its so annoying as the rpms rise its a ticking type sound. also elsewhere alotta folks recommending a programmer or chip saying its mandatory with these mods?

If you can get at it with an angle head drill then it can be removed with an easy out. A tune is required with headers since the computer can't compensate for the added flow.

it is really tight back there, you will have to take the header back off and might wanna take the air tube out too if you havent already because it will just be another thing to hold out of the way, then get at it with an easy out if you can

A tune is not required with headers. Recommended? Yes. But not required.

Correct^^^^

These cars do not have chips they have a small computer referred to as a PCM or ECM... A tune is superior to a programmer because it is optimized for your individual car.....

Newb response. It can compensate actually. These computers are "smart" and can learn/adjust to minor change i.e headers/exhaust/intake ...
no a tune is NOT required with LT's...

i had a similar issue when i did long tubes. the previous owner had broken off the very first bolt on the driver side.

i said f*ck in and still went thru with the installation. i couldnt fit any drill down there, so again i said f*ck it and put some RTV high temp sealent around the whole primary on the gasket.

6 months later and still no leak.

Default Now the hi flow cats are throwing codes 420 n 430

Okay forgot to mention.... The headers are made by OBX. I bought the whole kit with cats and y pipe. The cats are hi flow. My engine codes are coming up as cats 420 and 430. Inefficient catalytic converters. All new sensors. 200 miles on car since project with exhaust leaking because of broken bolt which we are fixing now but this cat issue is troubling because these things are very nice and i cannot imagine them not working 4 me. Is it the computer still or have i lost too much back pressure, PLEASE HELP GUYS

I wouldn't worry about any codes or driveability problems until the exhaust leak is fixed. Go from there!

Yes you can get the broken bolt out with head on (easy out w/right angle drill. No you do not need a tune but if you have never had one i would recommend it. And NO dont just throw some high temp rtv on and forget it, do it right.
