Default Frist time ls1 owner...

So I gave up the lt1 and came over to the ls1 world..Just dont know that frist thing about them.. I had a ws6 lt1 but sold it and got a 1998 with 241 heads and long tube headers ..It does have a built tranny.. It nees some work like the o2 sensors some vacume hoses as well.. But hopefully i get it up and running.. It starts but mis fires alot... Also i wanted to see if any one can tell me how to check the motor to make sure its not a 5.3 ..The old owner told me he had a new ls1 drp in but some say it might be a 5.3.. Also as a new owner and hopefully its a ls1 whats some quick mods that wont cost me a arm and a leg to get for upgrades or if you guys have any used parts let me know .... thanks

Congrats and welcome. If it's an LS1, it's not a 5.3, but if it's not specifically an LS1 it could be some other LSX block. You already have heads, a tranny, and headers, so I would suggest maybe an exhaust, lid, and intake to start.

Not sure but I can tell you that theres nothing special about the 241's over the stock 853 heads...slighty better design but no performance differance from one to the other.

317 heads have bigger chambers & are commonly used on 5.7 blocks to lower compression for FI setups.

Well when i put the magnet on the block i dont have a lot of room to put it on i just put it between the front of the head and the pully asambly so it just rolled down it didnt stay stuck to it ... Thats what i ment ... I just want to make sure of what i have .. Not a expert on ls1 stuff like most people on here ... Just starting to get to know this stuff...
