is there a way to get rid of the piston slap? i just find it annoying. if its a big project i will live with it. but if there is a way to get rid of it and add some power at the same time i may be inclined to do a project.

This man does speak the truth, hope you bought some head gaskets too.

Op that sounds just like my car has for 9 months. I brought it to a guy who builds these engines and he said it sounds completely normal for these engines. Just piston noise. If you burn a little oil make sure you keep it full. I have noticed that over a few thousand miles ill burn a tiny bit of oil and when I add some it quiets it down a lil. If you trust it maybe do a little sea foam.

If your LS1 doesn't make noise, that's when I'd worry... every LS motor I've ever heard makes knocking sounds, ticking sounds, sewing machine sounds, etc.

Bump

It can be frustrating when people don't update threads with results! I have the same exact sound in my car and I have found a good 3-4 threads with videos identical to mine with no updates.

Any updates from others probably wouldn't be much help to you, every car has it's own quirks. These engines are notorious for noise, it's been stated many times. If you don't have any outright mechanical issues I wouldn't worry about it.

mine has been doing that since 45,XXX miles currently have 87,XXX on it now.. been to redline, engine limiter,160mph runs, burnouts to the max... still sounds the same! i dont worry about it. waiting for it to blow on its own.

It's been about a year since I posted this. The car now has 62xxx miles. Decided not to change the lifters and started using castrol edge 5/30 which slightly helped reduce the noise 10/30 quiets it down alot more though. I can live with it although it is kind of annoying on cold start ups( since it sounds like a damn diesel engine)lol

+1
I pulled my heads, replaced lifters and trays; sounds exactly the same as it did.

If it helps any I put 103k on the car with these noises with plenty of abuse.

my engine started to make crazy sounds it sounded like a chipmunk was in my engine. It only occured during decel after i reved it up...less RPMs the quieter the noise. So i brought it to my mechanic he said it was a collapsed piston and another said it was bad cam bearings any ideas? I have replaced the engine and i now have a texas speed 383, so its not that im worried about it but i want to sell it and want to not mis lead anyone. Also with whtever is wrong with it and the sound how much would an LS1 be worth it only had 35k miles.
