Neither of these is done for cheap, if it is pieced together, intalled and tuned correctly. You are talking about 6+ Thousand dollars for either setup....because you will need a new rear-end and suspension to handle the power.

There are a few deals out there. My buddy just sold his sts rear mount system with upgraded turbo for about $900, just needed some wiring and oil pump. I really wanted to get it but didn't have the money at the time. Could have bought it, done injectors and ran low boost and got a dyno tune and have been set. IMO i think it can be cheap if you run really low boost but when all you guys start talking about 900+hp set ups and stuff I know that can get unreal.

im pretty sure if he had 40k...the word cheap would not have been is his thread.
im thinkin he just wants some simple turbo he could add without breakin the bank and nothing that required a bunch of extra supporting parts or labor.
as you know...you get what you pay for but here is a cheapest basic starter turbo kit that has an i/c.

cheap as in 500 bucks. or something like that. just a slight increase in power.

If you want to be quick, and you want to do it cheap... and like you said, your not that mechanically inclined. Just do a gear swap (3.73 auto / 4.10 manual), suspension, headers back, some tire, maybe a small cam & ls6 intake. That'll more then take care of the majority of cars out there, be a ton of fun, with no real upkeep.
Once you get into FI, it becomes a lot of work... and things start breaking. You almost have to have a 2nd car just incase.

and since i have this SS i already have the Ls6 intake.
I believe the car might already have tighter springs, SLP exhaust as well.
so basically all i need is the 3.73 gear, cam, and better tires.
i run Nexen NS3000 17(front) 18 (Back) currently

the ls6 is because its a 2001 not because its an ss, all 2001 and up are ls6.

XD yeeeaahh, um i realize this car isnt as low class as my old one, there are no 500 buck FI kits that are good.
Sorry guys ive been on FBO ever since i made this account XD..well its camarozone now
but yeah this thread will be left alone for a while, i havent decided on a turbo system yet.
but i dont have cash for a good one. I want to go twin turbo though

if u have the fab skills and knowledge u can do a custom rear mount kit for around $1k-1.5k depending on what deals and parts u go with, im currently finishing my rear mount now and only spent $1200, no tune yet or injectors but its not finished ether so im estimating about $2k give or take after injectors meth and tune, but u can go cheap ISH with turbo, but i did double what i planned on spending almost instantly : \ and im only 1/3 the way done with how i really want this kit too be, but its a slow build as i want it to be and im only on my "stage 1" of 3 im doing for this kit

yeah, now im just wondering what would be a good name to buy.
There is a kit advertized on this site that retains the A/c and mounts the turbos on the side of the motor.
But i cant remember what its called. Someone has been developing it for about 2.5 yrs.....

wow, almost 95% of people in here dont even own a car with forced induction. Here's some real world input: I own a turbo car and have driven MANY supercharged cars (supercharged: vette's, 5th gen camaro, mustang, bmw M3, f150, monte carlo, impala, etc)
My car has had: stock LS1 w/ cheap ebay turbo kit & ebay turbo (I helped design [aka fix the problems] the kit for one of the chinese companies), 404ci w/ ebay kit & ebay turbo, 404ci w/ custom turbo kit & ebay turbo, 404ci w/ custom kit & turbonetics 76mm, 408ci with 91mm T4 turbo, and will be switching to a 91mm t6 turbo soon.
My car currently has 850+rwhp, so I have had some extensive experience with forced induction systems
For someone with limited mechanical skill, and limited maintenance capabilities, go with a supercharger on LOW boost, on the stock engine.
I would still recommend having a second vehicle. My car would still have bolt ons if i didnt have another car to use.
if you have a high level of skill, craftsmanship, and time, you can build a turbo system yourself that has much greater potential than a supercharger.
you can run on the factory drivetrain if you know how to drive. I daily drove my car with 773rwtq with the stock rear-end for over a year. yes it eventually brock, but on lower power, it can be done.
you will however spend $4,000 to $5,000 NO MATTER HOW CHEAP YOU MAKE IT
you need the supercharger/turbo, fuel system upgrades, clutch/tq convertor upgrade, install fees, professional dyno tune, and unless your car is in 100% working order, little things will start to die and break, guaranteed.
Turbo: Thats not even close to being true. If you spec out a good combination it will spool VERY quickly. I had a 76mm on a 404ci that would have full spool by 2k rpms.
Supercharger: Yes you have instant boost (which is harder on the drivetrain) but superchargers tend to drop power in the higher rpm range due to heat soak and increasing parasitic losses
i have a 91mm turbo. it spools much quicker than that.
Hhaha I agree!
