First startup and drive around is the flow 10...love it. Mine is less raspy, I have a nice, stainless/eBay Y pipe.

Timmy: If you had a better merge you wouldn't have that rasp, or majorly decreased, and would pick up nice HP and tq numbers all across the board.
I had one chambers dumped before the axle with a custom xpipe on my old white car, I can honestly say I have not heard a better tone/quality ls motor, I'm sure the ms4 helped with that.

I have met incredibly few people that after hearing both prefer some rasp, as in I can count the people on one hand.
If you want rasp stay with a shitty ypipe/merge.. Want to decrease it majorly, get a quality y/merge. want to eliminate it, x or h pipe.
The more rasp you have the less power you are making, the less, the more....... To an extent, it goes further but that is scraping the top. the rasp is caused by air hitting directly when it comes into the merge, which means it is hindering flow because it is fighting the other air to make it to the Ipipe/muffler.

Can't exactly agree 100%. There is always a trade-off you know that. With cut-outs or wide open exhaust while you may not lose actual torque or peak torque numbers, but you do lose very bottom rpm torque and throttle response. It has nothing to do with high rpm. The further you get back from the motor the less noticeable it is. Smaller primary headers make more bottom end/midrange and bigger headers make more top end, both with their respective trade-offs, same basically goes for the remainder of the exhaust systems. I and lots of other people notice when changing exhaust or opening/closing a cutout on a car we have driven for years. That's no coincidence

However with all these 17/8 setups gaining from 3k+ rpms from stock to stroker motors, I'm more sure if the trade off is as big as I once thought.

Looks like you are headed down the right track. A stall is definately the best bang for the buck mod on a auto car. Make sure you use a quality one like a yank or Circle D. I will be interested in how the cam works for you, I am trying to figure one out for my sisters car, I am leaning towards a torquer V2 right now, but not positive. Her car already has a Yank 3600, LT and bolt ons and runs 12.2's so I think a cam will get her into the 11's nicely. FWIW she is still on the 10 bolt and her car has been 11.1's on spray.
Good luck with the rest of the build and keep listning to these guys they are steering you down the road to success.

I'm also hoping to be in that same range 1/4 wise and I know the stall (based On Others Knowledge) is one of the best things an auto can receive. Then Get the DYNOTUNE at Lethal Performance in San Antonio and its race time... I'll keep you all posted, may have the car on hand within two weeks! Been a long 9 months without it...
