Would buying an ls1 with 140k on it a bad idea?
Just as the title says, would it be a bad idea to get a 2000 camaro z28 with 140k on it? Should I be expecting lots of problems or it being a money pit? Seeking advice, Im going to check the car out soon. Thanks.

just depends on who owned it before you, i would deff get a car fax report on it if you could, see how many people have owned it in the past. Miles dont really matter on a car if it is well taken care of, i had a SS with 160k on the motor that i would take to the track every weekend and run high 11's with just had boltones and nitrous. If it has had 1 or 2 owners and they have maintained it like they should that car should see 200k + miles with no problem. You can usually tell just by looking at a car how well it has been taken care of, look under the hood at the engine bay, interior, just see if the person took care of it. Either way if your buying it for a low price, and u test drive it and it runs good, no smoke, engine doesnt make any weird noises, oil looks good, and its in good shape there is no reason to be afraid of buying it, LS1's are amazing motors that can take ALOT of beatings.

I wouldn't expect a lot of problems, but do expect some wear and tear (squeaks and rattles). As long as the vehicle was well maintained you should get plenty of good miles out of it.

bought my 99z28 three years ago with 142k on it. the car got rearended and totalled, but still runs like new at 176k on it. im so confident in it, i bought the car back and that drivetrain is going into a 2000 trans am. hope that helps. if the car is clean and runs good, i would jump all over it. ive seen many guys on here well into the 200k mark running high 11's.
ls1's are generally not expensive to fix, depending on what you are doing to it. plus they are one of the easier motors to work on as well. if you have any mechanical skills and can read this website, you will be just fine. =)

remove oil cap and put your hand over it,if you feel pressure the rings are junk.do a compression test.your rocker arm trunnion bearings will be loose and make more valve train noise, they can be swapped for $250 through TSP.

Its just going to be a daily driver with minor bolt-ons put on it. Im just planning on putting headers/full exhaust, air intake, sparkplugs/wires, and maybe an intake manifold. Im hoping that its in good condition and the carfax looks good, then I will most likely buy it. I also have been reading that the gas mileage is pretty good for an ls1, is that true?

I bought my 02 SS with a 140K miles on it. But to be honest, it's in better shape then most I test drove with half the miles. The others were just beat...no thanks.

I've go 108k on min 98. It runs like a champ, with a tight body and no real squeaks or rattles. I can't imagine it being a POS by 150k. If it was well taken care of it should be a long lived and enjoyable buy.

You should be fine. I've beat on my car since I've had it with 86k on the clock. It now has 154k miles, still going great. The engine seems very reliable, almost bullet proof. Just change the oil regularly. Parts are fairly cheap and it is a great engine to work on.

I'm the 7th owner of my 140k trans am. Beyond a rip in the seat, some paint damage, and squeaky ac pulley my car runs very well. I get anywhere from 17-20 mpg, I could be in the 20s easy if I had the 6 speed. I did have a bad pinion seal, outer tie rods and my trans mount was ripped apart when I got the car but those have been fixed. Hell I'm running it on a 9 yr old battery that came with the car and it starts up every time.

I bought my T/A with around 130k on it that had been totaled. The shop I bought it from said they didnt touch the engine and it has been one of the most reliable DD's I've ever had...this is the second year I have had it.
