Default Air Lid question!

What is the purpose of the tube coming off of the air lid? I just replaced the lid with an aftermarket one, so do I need the tube? Thanks in advance.

I believe it something to do with the A.I.R. system.

It's the system that injects air into the cats during warmup soo the cats warm up faster. It's an emmisions thing. I believe the tube is where the A.I.R. pump gets it's air from. You can either put a small air filter on that hose or hook it up to the air lid if it has provisions. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Cold start up contains the most harmful gasses. The AIR system pumps air into the cats to combat that I believe. You're right about it being for emission purposes.

Just stick a little air filter in that hose like everyone else does. Maybe use a zip tie to hold it in place. Your local Autozone, Murray's, or Pep Boys will have them. The ricer aisles are full of them.

A.I.R. must be different on LS1's then my old vette. I haven't checked my new Z28 out yet though. My A.I.R. tube cam off my headers and then down to the main cat, it brought the hot air from the header into the cat to help it burn off any leftover fuel that wasn't burned in the combustion chambers. I don't see how taking air from the intake to the cat would be really effecient? Maybe I am wrong, don't know as much about LS1's as I do the older motors, but I am learning! Is this why you have too buy a K&N breather for 00-02 LS1 lids?

Here ya go. I just installed my MTI carbon Fiber lid. I just disconnected the hose that went to my old lid and just added a filter.

[/QUOTEI did the same thing except I cut my hose off down beside the radiator so no the filter sits down low between the rad and fuse box.
