Exclamation Stall with stock rear-end

I was looking into stalls for my 98 Trans Am a4 with 89k miles. Ive heard that with a good stall and DRs you are putting alot of stress on the rear-end. I know im not going to be getting a new rear-end anytime soon with my financial situation so which stall would be the best for my rear-end..

I put a yank 3600 with 85k on stock rear. I guess if your really that worried go with a 3000-3200. If I were you i would go higher because it seems nearly everyone is dissatisfied when they go low or even consider putting the money some where else like headers ect.

if youre worried about blowing your rear id avoid hard launches. with an auto it can take some abuse but youre still taking a chance.

ill be getting mine built with a stronger posi when i can afford it.

An a4 rearend will definatley hold up longer due to less stress.

If you are worried about the rear, look into a rear end girdle. I've got one on mine with many low 1.60 60' launches.

regardless of your rearend, i wouldnt go any smaller then a 3600 stall. Theres guys going 11s, auto is more forgiving, and with no wheel hop, itll last a bit.

Whne you start cutting consistant 1.5x or lower 60's then when you should be mindful of the rear. Generally the worst you see is the dreaded whine, then from there, the howl. Sounds like your making stockish power so I would not worry too much.

Yes this is all I had on my stock rearend also exept the moser 3.73 gears and I had a 4000ss yank in mine. I never got under a 1.6 60' though and I just had bolt-ons. Best runs was back to back 12.10@111mph. Using 255/50/16 Mickey Thompsons on the stock rims I had literaly 100's of passes on that.

Saw a video on youtube of a guy with a 100% Stock LS1 (except for drag radials+4000 Stall) And he got the car to life the front end a couple inches haha, He also said he broke 2 10 bolts in a week.

I had a 2200 'street stall' by precision industries and broke the axle tube casing off the rear end inside 3 weeks. Looked like a grenade was tossed in it when it let go.

Bottom line is the rear is a weak link... It will either handle it or it won't and there is t really a safe sized stall to go with. Get what you want and if the rear goes consider it a sign that you need something better than a 10 bolt.

Do NOT go less then a 3500 stall. You will regret it if you do. I ran a TCI 3500 for three years with a stock rearend and 3.23's. I had at least 200 track passes with 1.6-1.7 60's. The key is to always preload the drivetrain before you launch. I liked to brake stall up to 2K and then let her rip

As for the stall brand, I would go with either Yank or Circle-D. They are both top quality converters.

The real question is if your 4l60 is built or not, that will go a lot faster than your rearend.

I would not worry too much about the stock 10 bolt in an A4 car at stockish power levels, even with a stall. If you can prevent wheel hop, then you should be fine for quite a while.

But keep in mind, racing breaks parts, so nothing will last forever.
