Auto vs Std
Honestly, it depends on what type of racing you are doing, and what type of mods you plan on doing.
If you are going to keep it stock, manual for any type of racing is better.
If you are going to mod it ...
If you plan on running it at the track...
Auto with a stall, gears and DR's will beat a geared/DR'd manual every time. A4's also give much more repeatable, consistant results, and rely less on the drivers ability.
If you're running on the street ...
Manual is the way to go .... since street races take place from such a variety of speeds, the M6 will almost always have the advantage with extra and shorter gears.
Auto = better launches and shifts .... a shift kit? come on now.
As for the "racing benefits" ... almost all cars that run under a 10ish quarter will switch to an auto.
I have a stick personally, and wouldn't want an auto, just because it takes the fun out of driving .... but an auto has a ton of advantages in the quarter.

do you realized what weekly hell you have released?
before WWIII breaks loose,
let me say if you want people to think youre fast, get a manual.
if you want to actually be fast, get an auto with some mad stall
learn what a torque converter is.
as a starter,
the high stall torque converters will get an auto to beat a similarly equipped manual in the quarter mile.
it will do so with less stress on the rear end.
it will waste more gas when doing so.
it will be less fun when doing so.
and the manuals will still whip my *** in the roadrace, autocross and "cool factor"
take a look at the top ls1 cars in the quarter mile=
from ls1techs SISTER site: http://www.ls1.com/qtrmile1.htm
let me also brag that my car beat a 2000 WS6 trans am with a lid a loudmouth and the six speed manual trans . i had the lid, the gmmg, and a yank 4000 stall with 2.6 STR
and it was from a roll! ~10mph and again at 35mph
ARRRR!!!

ROTFL ... niceeee
Ask yourself.......
Will I live on a drag strip ?
Do I want to DRIVE my car
Or just RIDE around in it ?
Ever pull a 4th to 2nd to 3rd from 70 ?? LMMFAO !!
**** On A4`s

As the saying goes....It ain't bragging if you do it!
but imagine how much faster it would be with a crappy 4L60e and this SS4000? or if youre real hardcore, the PT4400???
form over function is rice.
The T-56 also handles much higher power levels before it needs to be rebuilt or even replaced, that's just more money you need to add in with the stall and the gears to keep up with the unmodified M6.
It has nothing to do with "form over function" ... it is a matter of personal preference, and the type of driving you do. I had an A4, it was boring as all hell, and require absolutely no skill to drive (other then keeping the car going straight). The M6 is far more fun to drive, requires a ton more skill, and gets all the votes for "cool factor" (I don't hear any girls saying "is your car is an automatic? ... it is?! .... oh thats so cool ...")
.
but you guys are right about
"living at the track"
i havent been to it once.
after i am done with ALL mods,
i may take it to the track to see what it is supposed to do,
and then swap in a T56.
honestly,
the stall needed to punk an m6 in a straight line
(and i do, even from rolls less than 90MPH)
is just annoying.
but consider even though you have to mod an 4L60E with fancy bands and clutches and springs and washers, with the T56 you've got to get a 12-bolt fairly soon in the game.
and you should have seen the face on the girl
who's boyfriends 2000 Ws6 M6 lost to this crappy automatic
"hey, you said sticks are faster!" she said to him

Granted I am changing it this summer, but I have seen people get pretty low ET's with the stocker. An auto with gears and a big stall would have to change it shortly after a manual would.who's boyfriends 2000 Ws6 M6 lost to this crappy automatic

(pewter, stock chrome 16" rims, solid) I said.... it's fast..... she smiles. I love the new appeal to my ride. When I left the barbecue, a so-called gearhead came outside. I fired up my magnaflows and shook the house....
Ford boy says "wow, she's mean". I say "yep"....
Autos are just fine, mine shifts great, even stock.
