Default Oil change light?

Will the Oil Change light reset itself if the battery is disconnected. I ask because I disconnected the battery when working on my car. I dont know if the OCI reset...anyone know?

I am fairly sure it will but I am not 100%. In either case just re-set it again, it will take you less time to do that then it did to make this thread. =D

Probably would if it was on. Disconnecting the battery will reset the GM oil life system.

You do know that the oil change light program is just using a logarithm (math formula) to try to determine when it is time for an oil change?

There are no sensors testing your oil for quaility, metals, or any other test actually being run on the oil itself. It is just tracking start cycles, run times, temperature, and a few other things. Your oil could be mud or it could be water as far as the oil light program goes, it can't tell the difference.

Relying on this light is in my opinion a really bad strategy for determining oil change intervals.

Its not that bad, but what you do need to do is check and top it off as needed. New cars oil life lasts around 8000 miles if you just putter it around and don't beat on it. Couple that with a 100k mile powertrain warranty and that means GM engineers are pretty sure its ok to go that long. Again, as long as you check and top it off as needed.

I do mine the way the manual says, but if this works i guess since the hood is up it could be two birds with one stone.
