Head, Cam swap 01 SS
I've got a SOM 01 SS Camaro, so far my mods are a LM2 catback, Hooker long tubes and HFC's, and SLP lid and maf. I've got some ported 243 heads and looking to throw in a LS6 cam with them. I've been reading lots of posts about guys putting 243's on their cars, but not many about ported heads with the LS6 cam. I'm just wondering what you all think about that set up, I'm looking to get between 380-400wrhp is this a realistic goal with this set up? Thanks!

Yes, but the ws6 store has cams on sale. If your are going to use 243 heads with LS6 springs you are good to .570" lift. You might as well take full advantage of those heads and get a bigger cam. I went with a cam not much bigger than a z06 and I can't wait to change it.

380rw from that combo with ported 243 heads and an LS6 cam is not to much to ask for. Cam only typically make around 400rw. So with a stock-ish cam, and worked over 243's, that would work. Are they milled at all?
There's -2cc difference with the chambers on the 243 heads, so there's a very slight increase in compression. Not much though. But if they're worked over or ported, it may bring it back to 66cc for the chamber, so you're back to stock LS1 chamber size again.

Ok.. Look at the thunder racing cams too. If you settle on a rough number for a grind, just call them up. They're really nice to deal with. They can help you select a driveable, and near stock cam that will make great power without having to wind it out all the way. Most "race cams" are just that.. They seem to make power between 4000-6600rpm redline. As do most, but I think ThunderRacing seems to pay more attention to a well rounded grind... *no pun*

Here is a few cams to consider which would make 20 or so more HP than the
LS6 cam yet remain completely stock-like drivability and mileage.

or this one...................

I wouldnt go with a ls6 cam at all... Give TSP a call for street friendly 224 or 228 cam. It'll compliment those heads so well and you wont regret it one bit. Driveablity is all in the tune, make sure you get it done at a reputable shop or a frost mail order tune.

Yes, I would, along with pushrods, do timing chain, oil pump and dual springs. I personally have .650 lift, do it right the first time, is what the guys here taught me.

^ and a thicker O-Ring for the oil pump. And get a pushrod length checker.
That damn O-Ring gave my buddy and I such issues..

Whoever you go with, just use one of the sponsors here. I can only tell you how strong and well the car feels based on my experience with the 224.
Here is a vid so you can hear the sound of the 224 cam 114 lsa at WOT...
Here it is at Idle...

Love my drivability... Pulls strong too. I'm hoping for 370 when I finally get Dyno tuned... 380+ with those heads should be pretty easy. Some people on here have hit 380rwhp with stock 241 heads. (Obviously not all dynos/cars are created equal)
Idle (yes it's snowing.. Did I mention drivability? Haha)
