I'd recommend a BIG **** impact wrench. Its nearly impossible (and back straining) to install an LS1 pulley with hand tools. That sucker fits TIGHT.

You will also need a 3-jaw pulley puller, to remove the stock crank pulley. Sears has those.

installing an LS1 pulley is one of the most PITA mods you can do with hand tools. I'd rather pay a shop to do it if you don't have the tools.

at least hes got an M6!!!!! he can just lock it in 6th and torque away!

when we did it on my A4 i had to jam a giant screwdriver into the flywheel teeth and try desperately to hold the motor from turning while a guy 120 pounds heavier than me was yanking on a bigass torque wrench!!!!

Damn! Don't scare the poor chap.

I didn't think it was that bad. Only took me like 30 minutes. You'll needa new bolt, other than that and some gorilla strength you'll be alright.

Would you say it's a noticable mod? Would it be better to get the pulley kit with the alternator pulley as well?

I put ASP pulleys on my Mustang and noticed it on the buttmeter, but not sure how it will work with the LS1. Opinions?

What made you decide to only go with the crank pulley and not the crank and alternator?

Because the noticeable gains are going to be from spinning the water pump slower, not the alternator.

3 mph from a pulley alone in the 1/4? Sorry man, I gotta call B.S. on that one. At the most, the pulley is worth 5-8 rwhp on the dyno and are typically only good for about a tenth and 1 mph. This has been proven 100s of times in the last few years.

Can you "feel" a pulley with the butt-o-meter? Nope. But the timeslips will show a slight result from it.

ok call BS......i know what my timeslips say....maybe the air was a little better, but not much. i'll amend it and give 1 mph to the air.

BTW: i've seen a couple other people get 2 tenths/mph out of it.

also the reason i dont have the alternator pulley is because my A4 car idles too low to underdrive the alternator and still have a good charge...M6 cars are supposedly fine tho.

1st: if you run the alternator pulley as well, you will have a slight charging problem when at a stand still (especially noticeable if you are running an amp etc etc)

2nd: ASP claims 12-15 rwhp on a STOCK car. Every mod you make to your vehicle makes the pulley a less significant of a mod. For example: I saw a head/cam LS1 (440 rwhp) dyno before and after with just the pulley and saw a whopping 1 rwhp gain! Buy it for the gas mileage or the extending your accessory life. Do not expect the pulley to make you faster, harder etc etc. You will be disappointed if you expect it to "make you feel the difference"

just my 25 cents

PS i still got the crank pulley
