What air filter do you use?
Have a K&N with the airbox mod and ram air on my 99 camaro. I have recharged the K&N twice and each time I find some dirt and grit particles in the airbox. They look small enough to be able to pass through the mesh in the filter and I bet some have.
Anyone using a high performance paper filter or does a stock paper filter work? Let me know what you are using.
Thanks

I use an ACCEL Kool Blue. I shake it out every couple of thousand miles. If anything has gotten through it, it hasn't hurt anything yet! I was going to go with a clear lid (and may still) and thought the blue filter would look cool.

I use the stock AC Delco filter in my car, and a Fram air filter in my wife's car, and in my oil analysis results both of these filters have proven to trap dirt very well. K&N air filters are terrible at stopping dirt from entering the engine.

Hey Patman,
Thanks to your recommendations I just started using only Baldwin filters in the Camaro. I decided to burn the K&N in my driveway after completing Baldwin filter change. It burns quite nicely
Thank You for setting me straight,
Tony

I use Purolator because I flow tested 4 paper types
and it came in 2nd (behind the SLP Blackwing filter)
for best pressure drop. Slightly better than Fram,
both better than GM OE paper filter. I didn't test
any foam filters but won't be using them, either.

I use a K&N filter, free mods on the air box and a SSRA to feed it. If you keep the K&N filter charged(Red), doesn't it adequately stop dirt & allow much more CFM to pass???
I atleast think that may be true & I'm more about making power. Maybe a paper filter is just as good, please advise, Fred

Don't know if this is true or not, but when I did a search on here when I was trying to decide what filter to get a lot of guys said that the K&N is not made specifically for our cars. They said that's why it came with a foam strip, to make it fit tight.

I just pulled my K&N and put in a Fram. Don't know for sure, but suspect the K&N was the reason for my mass sensor getting dirty although I didn't find anything on the inside of the SLP high flow lid. Can't tell much difference in power between the two filters anyway.
