Question Whats wrong with my car?

When I first got my car i put a lid, FRA, and flowmaster muffler only on it and it ran 13.30's at 106mph range in 85 degree weather and on a cold day it would hit high 107mph range. I have not ran it for awhile so i decided to run it last week in about 75 degree weather and the best mph it would do is 104mph. So this weekend i went to a different track and it went the same thing around 104 mph. What do you guys think is the problem?

What car, track, gas, tires, 60' time? More than likely it's a combination of all 4 things. Sometimes tracks won't prep the start line like other tracks use VHT. With the price of gas, some people use 87 then put 93 in when going to the track. Trust me when I say your car will not run as good on lower octane gas. Compare your 60' times and you may even answer your own question. The first 60' of the track either makes or breaks you. Let us know, be as specific as possible.

BEFORE:
I have a 98 Z28 camaro my sixty foot times were around 2.15-2.20 range with street tires and I would turn from 13.30-13.50 in the 1/4 mile at about 106-107 mph in 80degree weather and on a cold day 107-108mph. I always run 93 octane. During this time I had around 60,000 miles on the car.

NOW:
My sixty foot times are around 1.95-2.05 range with Nitto drag radials and I still turn 13.30-13.50 in the 1/4 mile at about 104 mph in 80 degree weather. I still run 93 octane and i now have Mobil 1 synth 10-30w oil. I now have 71000 miles on my car.

The only mods are FRA, K&N filter, Lid, and flowmaster muffler only during both times. During the same weather conditions my car now runs 2mph slower. I am wonder if i need to replace the valve springs maybe they have became a little weak and that is why i am losing power but i have only put 11,000 miles on the car.

Could be a slipping clutch.

Stick car or Auto.? Good thinking, with the miles it might be springs but don't jump to that conclusion. Were you racing at the same track? Your ET picked up NOTHING with the DR's even with a 1.95 short time? Weird...

It could be something as simple as Atmospheric pressure or Barometric pressure. I know I've raced several weekends in a row where my MPH was off a few and ET was 1/10th slower. That is why Jegs/Summit/et al sell Weather stations, a car WILL run differently under varying weather conditions. I would say keep racing the car, see where it leads or if you have an extra $100, buy a spring tester, check your trans. pressure (auto.) or clutch for wear. I would think with the 60' time, your trans. can't be slipping...either auto. or stick.

Its a stick. My 1/8 mile ET times are a little better but my 1/4 mile times are about the same with the Nittos. It does not sound like or feel like its slipping but who knows. I think I will get a spring tester thoa and see if thats my problem. Thanks for the info.

Springs will crap out like that on top end. Test them and let us know.

Check to see if you have oil in the intake. If you do, go and have a fuel system cleaning and check into a catch can. This was my problem, oil blow-by from the PCV caused carbon build up and thus lead to pinging. I was getting around 3-4° of retard. I traped the same as you 103-104mph and ran close to the same ET, 13.2 with a 1.9-2.0 60ft. After the cleaning and some good gas, my traps increased to 107mph with no KR and ET droped to 12.8 with the same 1.9-2.0 60ft.

My car was a `99 automatic with 60,000 miles.

Where can you get a fuel system cleaning or did you run your own cleaner through the system?

You can do it yourself by buying GM top end cleaner and following their directions. (cheap route, 2 cans, $12) However, this is how I killed my `99, hydrolocked it b/c the stuff will puddle in the intake.

Dealerships, and a lot of oil change places (ex: Jiffy Lube), will do it too. For around $60 bucks.
