Best way to clamp same size exhaust
A buddy and I just installed BBK LTs/ORY. Everything went in smooth except for the fact his stock catback is the same size as the Y pipe. He doesn't want to weld it if he doesn't have to. What do you guys think the best option is to keep the pipes in place and not leak?

The pipes aren't long enough to slide over each other, you can barely get them to touch if you pull hard enough on the catback.
The clamp that holds the 2 pipes together on the Y pipe seems to be what would work but i have no idea where to find those.

Ok. Guess you have no other choice unless you weld a extension piece on. If they are both the same size then a un-stepped band clamp is what your looking for. If the pipes vary in size enough then a stepped band clamp.
If it were me, I would have an extension piece welded in. Trying to clamp a exhaust like that would just cause me headaches and leak. Just my opinion though.

It sounds a little sketchy but the clamp they use on the BBK y pipe is the same deal. The 2 pipes are the same size and the clamp seems to hold them in place pretty darn well. It's basically an exhaust coupler with a clamp around it? Anyone have any more info on these? I wish BBK included another one.
Welding is last resort, i'll update this thread with what we find out in case anyone else runs into this.

Just use a short connector pipe and 2 clamps, they sell them at any auto parts store.

Ahh. That sounds like something more up my alley. They are cheap too. I"ll check with Napa here soon and see what they say. I'd feel much more at ease with an actual pipe in there than just a clamp covering them.

I too just went through this..damn BBK. I just took the Y pipe to my local exhaust shop and had it expanded, added an 8 inch piece to connect to the catback, 2 band clamps, and DONE. To the OP, I know what you mean about the band clamp BBK supplies to connect the y pipe together. They are pretty sweet, although I haven't been able to find anything like that in my travels on the web.

There's a variety of band clamps out there, the ones
that underlap the steel to get full coverage are best.
I got good leak-tighness by wrapping a couple of turns
of aluminum tape around the joint and then clamping
(a crush gasket of sorts).
