best cam for stock setup and #241's?
hey guys here at the forum. First of all thank god for the LSX engines. A friend of mine bought an 04 gto and wanted to do some upgrades. engine currently has 84,xxx miles on it with everything stock. We want to do a cam swap in the next two weeks. i found a little info online and found this cam COMP Cams XFI XE-R lift: .595" / .598" Duration (IN/EX): .281" / .283" Duration @ .050" (IN/EX): .232" / .234" with LSA of 112°. its a kit that comes with LUNATI dual springs, lunati steel retainers, lunati 7 degree valve locks, lunati LS spring seats, lunati valve seals for 8mm valves. just wanted to know if this cam is good for his set up or there are other better option. His goal is to get about 400-450hp to the wheels. we know that with a cam itself it wont be possible but we are putting a stall, lts, cai, exhaust, tune and possibly intake manifold. what do you all suggest? im fairly new to all this Ive only been in the auto filed for 6 years? any help would be appreciated. thanks

forgot to mention that it will be a kind of a daily driver (around 25 miles a week) possibly 600 miles once a month for traveling to home town in the weekends.

The LS6 intake is a must. The LS1 intake would be a huge restriction on a cammed motor. Also dont forget the supporting mods, Ls2 timing chain, rods, ported oil pump, valve springs, ls7 lifters, bigger injectors ect..

I'd go with 42 lb injectors and upgrade the fuel pump.
As far as cams take a look at the Cam Motion Titan lll, 230/234 113lsa +4, or the BTR Stage ll cam, 227/234 113lsa+2 .

Have you read the cam guide?
A loose converter "stall" will keep you from that 400whp mark, but it'll make a huge difference in how the car performs. That's why Hp goals are really kind of bogus.
I notice that kit comes with seals. If wouldn't mess with them unless you have bad seals. All you really need is the cam, spring kit, push rods of the correct length, and the necessary gaskets. A ported oil pump and ls2 chain is cheap insurance. I'd buy what you need from someone that knows LS's vs. a place like Summit. I'll suggest Speedinc because they are outside of TX so you skip sales tax and get free shipping on orders over $100. Vengeance has some nice shop grinds too. Not sure on their shipping though.
For injectors, I ran SVO red top injectors (36#in an LS application) on a 408 and gm 28# injectors when my ls1 was cam only. No need for 42# in a cam only ls1.
Who is doing to tune?

OP check out some more cam kits before you buy any thing .you can reuse the stock GM valve spring retainers and locks on cams requiring a single beehive spring.what size stall converter are you installing ?stock injectors will work up to the 420rwhp range .also consider a new oil pump and a ls2 timing chain.get some after market trunnion bearings that work with stock GM rocker arms .

Thanks guys for all the info and web links. As for the tune. We will be taking it to a shop in el paso tx called speedfactory. Hes a friend of a friend and hes pretty well known on that area with tuning. And glad to hear it is equiped with an ls6 intake not a an ls1.

There is a budget of roughly $2500-$3000 on engine. He is thinking of getting an ls3 with turbo setup till next year. But he wants to start building the ls1 for now(better for me I may keep the ls1). So ive been seeing in other forums that a 228 with a 3600 stall would be a a good daily driver. Any thought about that? Any help would be good. Thanks to yall for all info

Your converter choice should reflect your set up. Choose those other componenets and then talk to a converter manufacturer or shop of your choice. I'd take their recommendation over what you saw someone use on a forum. You can do the same for the cam choice too if you want too.
