Default OBD II Questions

Hiya,
Was thinking I wouldn't mind having 2 OBD II ports....one inside and one underhood. Am I wrong to assume I can just splice the serial data cable for this? I have no plans to use both at the same time but just for convenience sake, it would be nice to have one in each location.
Cheers

I also had a reason to want 2 OBDII ports,I bought an OBDII 'splitter' so I could have my ScanGaugeII connected and still connect something else. Didn't work for 2 outputs but 1 was OK, The ScanGaugeII would work in either port of the splitter as long as the other port wasn't being used. So your scenario should be OK.

If you have an android phone, buy an elm327 obd2 blue tooth adapter and download "torque". I have about $15 invested and couldn't be happier. You can scan for fault codes, log, setup your own gauges for real-time info.
I don't know why I didn't have these years ago... Lol

Thanks folks. My main motivation for doing this is to have the luxury of accessing diagnostics, etc from either the inside or underhood. I'll plan to splice the data cable and go from there. Thanks!

That's why I was suggesting the bluetooth tool, you can stand in front of the car with your phone while you tinker and view realtime data simultaneously.

I haven't had the best of luck with Bluetooth. Works great when very close to the emitter but a few feet away and I've had issues. In fairness I don't use it much. It sounds like you've not had those issues so it's certainly an option for me. Thanks

no personal experience but torque app seems like a great wireless choice.
