Strap it to a Jet and fly around at any MACH speed and you have it

The fastest LS1 is a 387 ci motor (4.125 bore, 3.625 stroke, if memory serves) boosted by a F1R we built, assuming the record still stands.

That was Ron Duke's 2001 droptop, and at 3,700 lbs, too.

I do believe he posts here, but don't know his user name.

I thought the nitrous cars were fastest. Anyways... a set of flowmasters and some stickers should do the trick.

I don't know if that's accurate or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. The car has more than 8.5 in it.

He was actually running over 20 psi, IIRC.

Definitely. He's gotta get that weight down a bit.

...ok, so the original question was fastest LS1...did you mean LS1 motor or car? We know a C5R motor is bad ***, and capable of great things, but definetly not a LS1. Can anyone say close to $30,000 just for the motor. So how about fastest ls1 motor?

Wouldn't it actually get going faster if you dropped it out of the jet?

Unlikely. Terminal velocity of an TA or Z28 even if you managed to maintain nose down orientation in freefall would be far less than mach speeds. Probably in the 150mph range, but not much more than 250mph tops. Get it tumbling around which it most likely will want to do, and you're not going to get much more than about 120mph out of a freefall.

Then again, most MACH capable jets aren't going to fly too well with an F-body strapped to it.

Neglecting drag - if dropped from 30,000 feet - the ultimate speed would be 1389 ft/s or 946 miles per hour. I'm pretty sure you won't even cut 1/2 of that with drag of a car.
http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/traj.html
Then again - the speed of sound at sea level is 761 mph - so if you lose 25% through drag - you will still be faster on the jet.
I suppose the fastest possibility would be to hook the car up to a jet and launch it towards space - maybe in the space shuttle...

When he made that run, he was using rather small headers, only 21ish psi, running on 28.5 inch slicks, and weighed 2,700 lbs.

Slap some bigger slicks on there, turn up the boost, open up the exhaust, cut down the weight, and what do you get?

As someone mentioned not too long ago, all it takes is money, engineering, and desire. All three have gone into this car...and the run is not done yet.
