LS1 or LS2
Ok guys needs some input. I have a 2000 Formula M6 with 65K original miles. I have come across a freshly rebuilt LS2 short block for a good deal from one of my friends. It's already got a 24 tooth reluctor, and I already have some heads and a Cam that was going to go into the LS1, that I can slap on the short block, and pretty much just pull the Ls1 out and drop the LS2 in. My question is, what would it really be worth it? Pros/Cons? Eventually I'm probably going to spray the car. The car is also just going to be. Drag/ toy car. Figure if I did I could sell the Ls1 and make some money and not really be out anything.

Guess I should mentions I have PRC 2.5 heads and VRX5 cam, LS6 manifold soon to be a 92/92 setup that I would be putting on the LS2 short block if I decide to go that route. Would I not see more power with the LS2 short block?

I would expect so. The heads should be able to breath better with the larger bore, and even ignoring that simple hp/ci from the same heads and cam would take a 425 hp LS1 to a 447 hp LS2. Plus the better gen 4 rods would allow you to more safely spin a motor with a cam that size past peak hp.

I would do it no doubt.. If you plan on spraying it I would wait and do forged internals while the motor is already apart.
Worth while investment to save time down the road and make way more power while not crossing your fingers for an explosion every spray - been there before

Doing the work yourself, it would absolutely be worth it. The LS2 does indeed have stronger rods than the LS1 (it's not supposedly better, they are better) and an LS2 shortblock will definitely have an increase in power over a LS1 shortblock no matter what topend is on it.

Ok sweet that's what I wanted to hear! Then up front cost will be more but I figure once I sell the LS1 that will more than make up for it. What do you guys think a 65K mile Ls1 would should sell for?
