Default Tips for buying a 99 Firehawk w/mods

Hi All,

I found a 99 Firehawk with 31k miles and a LOT of mods. It was a trade-in on a new car and a local dealership has it and I was wondering if anyone had tips on what I should look for.

Here's a list of mods:

Super Charger, Dual Intercoolers, Long Tube Headers,Sub Frame Connectors, Performance Engineering Traction Bars, Full Aftermarket Performance Exhaust, Moser Engineering Built Rear, PRM Upper and Lower Boxed Arms, QA1 Shocks, Custom Exhaust Tips, Billet Pinion, Boost A Pump, Wilwood Six Piston Caliber Rotor Upgrades, custom stereo w/amp and sub

My biggest concern was that there were no receipts for any of the mods. Obviously I can see the supercharger but some of the mods aren't visible and I don't know who put them on.

Should this be a concern? Is this set up something that needs to be professionally tuned and dynod? I guess I don't want to buy it and blow the motor because the boost was set too high (I just made that up, not sure if that can actually happen!).

The dealership is trying to get proof of the work because I walked away from the car. It's been sitting for a few months and I don't see many people interested in it.

Thanks,
Mark

S*** man, I wish I lived that close. how much are they asking for it?

Also, what are your plans for the car? is this strip/street? track only?

Also, how mechanically inclined are you? If you're worried about the quality of install, you could always do it yourself.

Asking is 23k but I wouldn't pay that. I was going to head back and offer 18k but only if they get me receipts for proof of work.

The car would be street/strip. Nothing hard core.

My biggest issue is the unknown. For example, I don't know if the clutch if stock. Can it handle that much power if it's stock? Same thing about any of the bottom end. Can the stock short block handle that kind of power?

holy **** , 23k for a modded f body , for that price it better have built engine , trans and rear , totally aftermarket suspension , nice aftermarket rims and shocks . And be clean as hell.

On here something like that would probably go for 13-16k

It does have some aftermarket suspension parts and a custom built rear although they couldn't tell me the gear ration.

The car only has 31k miles and does show well. Not perfect but it was clearly taken care of.

It's a T/A Firehawk with a 6 speed and I believe all factory options including the cd changer.

13-16k sounds like a much better number to me!

I wouldn't pay more than 14k. If the car has been sitting on their lot for a few months they're probably desperate to get rid of it by now.

Exactly. And by September as the season starts winding down so will their asking price. It's still only July so they can fritter some more time away. For $23,700 you can probably buy the lowest mileage, and totally original '99 Firehawk in the world...and still pay too much. 31K miles is really not that low. And once modified, that number means a lot less...and the fact that it's a FH means a lot less. A stock '99 FH with those miles is probably worth around $14K. Looks to me like the current owner wants every cent of those mods back. $23K is more than 2000 GMMG SS money...and those cars are actually pretty scarce. In fact, there's another current WIW thread asking about a 2002 HRE GMMG Camaro with 35K miles for $21,500. That car is overpriced and is still way more desirable than a hot-rodded '99 Firehawk. And 1999 Hawks get the least amount of love of the '99-'02 years.

Vehicle history shows no accidents but 2 owners ago, the title was erroneously checked a not actual vehicle miles because Maryland Motor vehicle said car was exempt because of age so we are back tracking the paper trail trying to have it fixed with a title specialist and CarFax. ....good luck with fixing that. A total of 5 owners to date. And the last 2 only had it 10-11 months. What was the problem for them? None of this is beneficial. They've had the car for nearly 4 months...how much progress have they made in trying to get the title mileage fixed and proof of the cost/quality of the mods? Biggest concern to me is that nothing breaks the day after the limited warranty expires (30 days?)....if they even offer one for a modded car.

Save your $18K and wait for the price to drop. I agree with the lower estimates of the others. There's no shortage of heavily modified cars being sold cheap. The dealership is delusional if they think this car is under heavy demand priced in the $20's.

Wow, great advice. I'm glad I posted this here.

I'll look elsewhere unless they bend over backwards to sell it to me.

Thanks guys.

Mark
