what are the highest performance 5.3 heads to port? what are the casting #s and the years produced would be helpful.also I have a "99 ls1 ,wondering if stock 5.3 heads would out perform the stock 853"s or ported 853"s with stock or larger valves? plan on a 231/239 .617/624 or 224/230 .581/592 comp cam. thanks

 

From what ive seen the 5.3 heads (706 or 862) will do a little than the 853 head if they are ported by the same person or company. I run PRC 5.3 heads (862 casting) and they are a great bang for the buck IMO

have a 97 camero coupe,f/g ss hood,manual windows,seats ,stay stock weight, 10 bolt 3.23s,street strip car have the highest stall with my gears like a yank 3600,do the easy mods ,ls6 intake,ported t.b.,l.t.headers,probily start out with a cam,shocks,tires,stock bushings. haven't ran the motor yet came from the junk yard w-77,000 miles,maybe wait and do the 5.3s",stroke to 406 with new pistons all at once, if I could run high 11"s with a cam,that would be good for now,besides I have only bracket raced with low powered vehicles,i like to work my way up a little. well,thanks again.

 

You may want to stick with LT casting heads then and forget about 5.3s

 

doing a v-6 -ls1 swap, wish I did have a lt1

 

IMO you might as well sell your v6 and buy an ls1 t/a or Camaro...it'll cost less
