Default wanting a new cam

Hi i know there are a thousand different threads out there all about the different cams and i cant tell you how many hours ive spent reading through them. For the longest time though ive wanted the ms4 of course. It sounds great and ive heard the power it makes is awesome. just not sure what to do because i dont want to lose useable power or not really be able to get to it but id love to have something that sounds like the ms4 does. I have a 99 TA M6 with TSP 1 7/8 long tube headers, and 3 inch exhaust and ORY. stock gears i believe as well

It's really a matter of perception and opinion. It's not gonna be like a Prius or anything lol After about 4 grand it will come alive though

I bigger cam with stock gears will feel a somewhat softer than a smaller one, but it's not a huge difference IMO. After around 4k it will feel stronger though

Would it be a really big difference compared to stock down low? And would it be worth just getting the bigger or would i always be playing catch up like i read everyone else saying? And thanks for your help by the way

Honestly if you will be staying with the stock gearing I'd go with something smaller than the MS4. Call some of the vendors on here and they'll get you in the right direction

Yeah i think ill be going with tick perfornance either the stage 2 or 3 torquemax. They seem to have pretty good options

You might like the tick SNS stage 2 cam. I would say definitely go with more aggressive gears though. Even with my baby cam on stock gears it felt soft down low.

ms3 / ms4 will be way over prius level, but a little less than
stock feel with an otherwise stock set up.

i ran th3 ms3 in my stock block ls1 gto, but just moved up to
a 383 stroker with the ms4, and it's not soft down low any

Not much difference between 3.23's and 3.42's. The SNS 2 would still be a solid choice

I would say to go with at least 3.73's if not 3.90's or 4.10's. But yeah, even with my little 224r cam, under 2500rpm it felt a little tired. Granted, you're never really going to be going wide open throttle under 2500rpms. I would suggest a minimum of 3.73 gears.

Yeah i called tick performance and told them everything. They said thatd be a good cam but want me to buy a lot of other parts. I know i was going to buy springs and pushrods but they want me to buy the timing chain, oil pump, and gaskets. Is this really like needed? Cause I've heard it's not always even necessary

it depends on the mileage. if you have, say, over 80k miles on it, and
your going to do a cam swap, oil pump, new chain, springs, rods... are
certainly on the "to do" list. on the "must do" list ? maybe no.

you will need a new gasket set for sure, at a minimum.
