LQ4 build questions.
Hey guys, I have a 98 ls1 camaro. I was doing a ms3 cam swap when a bolt broke off into the block. It does not want to come out. I bought a lq4 block from a buddy of mine. 120k miles. it comes with the piston and the crank as well.
My question is this. what are some ideas to complete the build for around 2-3k. I don't need the car accessories, due to having a complete ls1. I also have a computer from my 98 ls1 and the 02 lq4.
I know I need to go to the machine shop, but some input would help me get a game plan before I go out spending money I don't have. I work 2 jobs and go to school. thank you
Cody

Use your LS1 heads. They flow a little less but will raise compression over a stock LQ4. If you have a few bucks, try to score some 799 or 243 heads for it.
Maybe consider getting rid of the 98 PCM. While fine for most situations, they do have a few restrictions when it comes to boost/trans selection and tuning. You'll have to repin your harness at the PCM connector if you do, though, and get your new PCM tuned.

That looks like the long crank 99-00 lq4 based on the picture. If you have a t56, it won't work, but if you have a 60e, you need a flat flexplate and custom converter.
For the 2-3k price range, you can always get a cam and get some stock 243/799 heads. bring the heads to the machine shop to get cleaned up and a valve job.

We have complete rebuild kits for that engine to make 370 flat top setup for $660 ads $130 for ls7 lifters and trays. Covers every bolt, seal, gasket, and bearing for your setup as well as pistons, rings, oil pump, head bolts, and timing chain. The flat top 370 setup would make KILLER power. or we have stock bore flat tops also for a 364. Save $50 on the stock bore flat tops.
Works with your stock crank and rods whether from the ls1 or 6.0.

This is good advice...think about that "long crank". I have a forged bottom end 6.0 sitting on my engine stand that I built with a long crank...only thing i could find at the time. Well, I'm T56 now...so, out with the long, in with a new short crank...
