Default Anything to avoid?

Been scouring the classifieds, salvage yards ebay etc. for an LS engine. Any particular things I need to be aware of? I can get a 99 out of a Trans Am with 107K miles with trans for $3250. Not sure if the mileage is something I should be concerned with? Just building a driver, not a performance build.
What do you think?

Where? I want as late as I can get with as low mileage as possible.

This guy I am talking about sells them daily for that price, that why he doesn't really deal much. Keep in mind, that with everything, front drive, accessories, computer, harness and transmission.

Here's a sample of whats available sort of locally.

https://wichitafalls.craigslist.org/...530039763.html
https://littlerock.craigslist.org/pt...522312433.html

If there is a good source to buy these things in the OK/TX area please let me know. I am a newbie and at the mercy of everyone else.

Default Early LS-1 on Cracks

Hi Root, YES as there is a PROBLEM with the "early" GEN-III Crankcase due to windage passageways.

GM machined a HOLE between the Cam tunnel and Main tunnel for air balance.

This block is OFTEN found with cranks in that main web area.
TRY to find a GEN-IV engine.

MY method : Salvage Autos.com, BUY a "roll over" 2007+ Escalade 6.2, parts only car. ($2550.00)

Lance,

I wish I could find something like that. I have been watching the dealer auction sites. The main thing I need is the capability for a front sump. I am trying to figure out the blocks that will accept the GTO pan.

i believe all ls motors should accept all the pans. the reason for the different pans is ground clearance and to fit inside the engine bay and around k members and such

Default Tail Wagger = Buggy

Hi Root, I too agree "front sump" pan fits ALL Crankcases.

We supply Sand Car engines, some are Tail Waggers !

Thus a "front" sump requirement.

It depends on what you need and what kind of car it's going into. You can always do better price wise with a 5.3 truck pullout. But if you need all the f-body stuff (harnesses, PCM, etc.) you'll pay a premium, because those are so much harder to find nowadays.

It mostly depends on the area every now and then they pop up on craigslist in my area for under 2k guess it just depends on how eager someone is to sell the engine.
