Default Alternator Exciter Wire

I'm having alternator issues of not charging. New alt that wasn't a reman ( yes i know it still could be bad) but my question is; The 5v turn on signal from the PCM, is it 5v +/- or what? I measured about 7.5v on my exciter wire while running. I know there are tons of post about alternator problems, just need to know if i have too much voltage that is causing the no charge. Also my battery is in the red but dont have the check gauges light either ? Any help or info would be great. I have seen a lost that someone have a similar issue and the change the PCM to fix it.

So, update took the brand new Alt out and had it tested. Passed 3 times, so im back took the question does the exciter wire have to be exactly 5v when im measureing +6.5v. Ive read that 00's plus didn't have a resistor in line since it had enough resitance on the circuit already. Why now would i need a bulb or resistor to get the alt charging. Nothing is changed except new alt.

I don't have an answer for the voltage, but I had the exact same problem. New battery and alternator, and I still got minimal to no charging (and when it was damp out, the second I put a load on it the car would start failing and dying.) I replaced the entire part of the wiring harness that hooked up to the alternator, and it ran like new ever since.

Thats not a bad idea to replace the harness. Do you have a part number of the one you bought.

Thanks for a reply! What is special about this pigtail? I have spliced in a new pigtail that i bought from advance auto and im reading 6.5v-7.5v from the pin on the pigtail. Would the one you posted show anything different? Thanks again

I figured out my issue. The exciter wire plug I bought from advance auto was the 4 wire plug that had 4 wires. The other three that I tapped up where actually making contact with each other. I cut the exposed wire and taped them individually. I NOW have charging and 14.55v across the battery.
