Default Intake - heads

hi all I keep hearing that my 02 camaro z28 should have a ls6 heads and intake. I don’t think is does but not sure. How would I know? What is the right cast number on both the ls1 or ls6 heads and intake. Or is there another way I can tell. Thanks in advance.

I think LS6 heads would have been 243 castings. Your Camaro most likely has the LS6 intake ,but likely not the heads

When I purchased my 02 Z28 I noticed the passenger cylinder head casting number 243 on it so I new my heads had been swapped for the LS6 heads previously.

Thank you for the head cast number. Is there a way to know if the intake is an LS6? Like a casting number or some kinda mark?

The ls6 intake was the standard intake by 02. Unless you plan on serious mods just assume you have it since it was the stock intake. If you're planning on getting into the motor at some point you'll know what intake it is as soon as you see the bottom of it.

The ls6 heads will have 243 stamped on the corner. Yours wouldn't have those unless someone swapped them on at some point.

Straight from HotRod.com https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp...r-102-intakes/
LS6 manifold found on all LS1-powered ’01 and ’02 Camaros and Firebirds, ’01-’04 Corvettes and Z06s, ’04-’05 CTS-V, and the ’04 GTO. There is an assortment of part numbers associated with this intake: 12573572, 12561184, 88890524, 88890523. 88894339. Recognized as the current factory replacement is PN 88894339.

Look on the driver's side of the intake. It's going to have a part number stamped on it in the middle between some of the injectors.

Not sure who would be saying this, but it's not correct. All '01+ LS1s did come with an LS6 intake, but no LS1 Camaro ever came from the factory with LS6 (243) heads.

They may be confusing it with the corvette which saw every z06 get the 243 as standard from 01-04. The base vette still didn't get those heads though so it still wasn't exactly base equipment.

It might have more to do with the small percentage of LS1 F-bodies that received LS6 blocks in the '01-'02 years. Most don't have this, but some folks might be confusing this with the heads.

It also might be because the LS1s did receive a new head casting number (241) in 2001+ (actually, it first appeared on some very late '00 cars but most consider it to be a 2001+ head), and some folks might just be confusing this for the 243 heads or assuming that heads were standardized for 2001+ LS1/LS6 just like the intake.

But, for the record and future reference of anyone searching, no 4th gen Camaro ever received LS6/243 heads from the factory.

I was originally thinking of the ls6 block, but figured anyone who knew about those blocks would probably know about the heads. The 241 head never even came to mind. When I first got into the ls1 world I kept confusing the 241 and 243 heads. I doubt I was the only noob getting those numbers jumbled. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that in this case considering it was my own mix up for a few months. I guess it was just selective amnesia lol
