Default My car seems Underpowered!

ok..my old 94 z28 lt1..when i was at a stop sign..no brake..held if i jammed the gas to the floor it fucken lit them up..all the way through the intersection...
now that i got my 98 LS1 transam...im at a stop sign and push it to th efloor...it just squeals for about 3 seconds..about half way into the intersection then grabs..is this normal..or should i be able to go quite a ways..without the brake held...

keep in mind my 94 z28 had 30,000 miles on the tires and my 98 transam..only has about 8,000 miles on the tires.

maibe the fact that one pair of tires where 30k old and the other ones are only 8k old but you should be able to lite up the tires all the way to third gear non stop if you got the pedal to the floor. i know one time i tested my car to see how muc hrubber it would burn and i spun out first, spun out second, and the speedo said i was going 55 when the car wasn't going any faster than 20 mph

i would imagine this would pretty much sum up your "problem"

i wouldn't suggest burnouts as a determining factor of your cars power...

I was going to say that you're gearing is probably 2.73's. That's what I've got on my camaro, and I have the same story you do. Gas stomp = a little noise for a sec, but then grabs right away. I'm sure your car still feels faster than the LT1 though right?

it says right in his sig he has 323s..so unless hes retarded he has 323s. Maybe you have some problem within the engine ? Generally, autos can burn ridiculously tho..i have to brake torque mine to really get it to spin. Spinning shouldnt be used as a power base though

I guarantee that car is faster then your lt1 though

I have my skins set to Darkside LS1, so black text doesn't show up very well. BUT..... I thought I had the 3.23's for the first 2 years I owned my car. Only recently did I find out it was 2.73's. I bought the car used, and the mechanic that worked at the dealership told me 3.23's. Had no reason not to believe him, as he was a pro, and he was a Camaro freak like me. What he's discribing though is EXACTLY how my car drives. So unless we both have the same problem, then my vote goes to the gears.

I've got an a4 with 2.73 and I'm lucky if it will chirp the tires on the street. I stomp it and the car just goes, no spin.

my problem is worse if you wanna say that. I have the following in the sig, and my car doesnt even squeel from a stop, brand new 17inch SS wheels with new 275's. My car just grabs instantly, the front just lifts up bigtime when i slam the gas. ITs funny how i have that much tq and i cant even light my tires up without dropping the clutch, i cant fishtail either around a turn unless it rained!

You want it to hook, being able to spin through an intersection isn't going to win a close race. However, that being said i could spin my pos bald F1's through an intersection on my stock converter. If you want to spin all the way through regardless of tire condition get a vig 3200

My car does god burnouts on blacktop (can hear the tires sqealin a little because the exaust is loud) On the non blacktop roads I can't here the tires making any noise but sometimes I can feel it sliding a little but it really hard to even do that because of the 2.73s. I use to own a V6 that had 3.42s and couldn't lay a single mark on a straight away unless you cut the wheel.

Arriving late to the converstation but let me add, I don't have to stomp the gas pedal to the floor and this is burning out well past an intersection, I could even see -little- smoke from my rear view mirror . I turn around and I can barely see any tire marks. Only one time -I've really spinned the tires- have I spinned with tire marks printed on the black street, I stepped on the gas and not all the way to the floor, and I started spinning then I notice smoke, tons of smoke, then I let off the gas a little got on it again and the car moved in very slow motion, when I came back home half way towards the end of the burn out, only 1 tire was marked on the street. But I regularly see little if any tire marks when making a burnout -normal burnout-, unless I really get on it. Their is times I leave my house and give it gas, spinning the tires then I get off the gas and on my way, come home and most of the time I cant see the tire marks. But it's fast, and I know Im smoking the tires when I want to spin them. I would say what your car is doing is normal.
