Im 16 and my first car i just bought was a V8 5.7L 1995 Firebird Formula. Im guessing the engine type is called "LS1" or "LT1" . I live in vegas, and around here its about your car. I have K&N, Flowmaster, Headers. What else should i put on my car to make it faster?

what year is it? 93-97 = lt1, 98-02 = ls1. two completely different motors, the later being the superior one.

and 2nd, your 16 and its your first car, you dont need to make it faster

Don't worry about beating you will take from older people on here... it happens over and over again...16 year old.. Fbody... everyone is either overly concerned...or jealous because they never had anything like that at your age. (I used to be like that too... not so much anymore ) Just enjoy what you have and take good care of it.

I had a 13-second car when I was 16. Of course I built the car from the ground up and had alot of respect for it. Not everyone that is young is immature about driving a fast car, I've never been in an accident before and I'm 31 now.

Just respect the power your car has. Don't ever show your *** if the roads are wet or damp, these cars like to swing out their rearend and get sideways.

Right around my 16th birthday my Dad got a C5 Corvette Vert, and since I was a very responisble type person I got to drive it whenever... I had also gotten my "hardship" license at 14 so it was cool. But then the vette had to be put into my name (long story) and that happened right about the same time as my first speeding ticket. (see the connection)

When the judge found out that I was 16 years old driving a vette, I got 40 hours community service... so speeding was no longer fun...

Just be careful, because everyone hates young people in fast cars!

I would say age has nothing to do with it. Everyone has different maturity levels and matures at different times. Just because someone is 16 doesn't mean they don't have the responsibility to drive and own a fast car. Some 40 year olds have the maturity of 10 year old and vice-versa. So you guys don't need to be on here preaching about how teenagers don't deserve fast cars. If you don't want to read about some kid that wrecked his car, then don't; it's as simple as that.

I'd agree. It's all about the kind of kid/person you are. My parents scared the crap out of me saying things like "we'll take the car" or "you'll ride the bus"

At the time, I was worried about those things, but now I'm glad they gave me such a hard time because it made me a better driver. Sure, my IROC would have been lucky to go 14's, but it was still faster than a Civic!

But really, I'm 21 and all 4 cars I've had (89 IROC w/L98, 93 Mustang GT, 2001 Z28, 2000 SS) have been cars that most "kids" shouldn't have. I paid for everything myself though, and I'm still here (not sure how long though! ) but it's all in the attitude - and not all kids are going to have a good head on their shoulders - and that's why people give you crap.

this isnt someone who comes off as one who is mature and responsible and just wants to enjoy having a nice machine.

I might get flamed for saying this but take your racing out of town. Many people have died having some fun and getting caught by the cops costs money. Get in the rural ares or outskirts of town.

I was the exact opposite Tony. I only had a 305TPI '86 TA, but I caused 3 major accidents within the first 6 months including wrecking at 100mph. Great lessons learned. I was a good driver as far as ability. I was just wreckless. Now I'm careful about driving like a maniac.

kid - Mod your car all you want and enjoy it. Just respect it.

Get a better exhaust and get a torque converter. Just becareful! There is a lot of fun to be had with your car but there is a lot of responsibilty too. Use your power for good young padwon.

OK, so two people have actually answered the kid's question. To make your car faster...it's all up to how much dough you have, and how much of that you are willing to use on your car. Since performance modifications have no value when re-selling your car, you'll never get your money back. Here's a decent mod list:
-Get a higher flowing cat-back to help your headers out, I suggest magnaflow (can't beat the price/performance ratio)
-upgrade your cam (which again will help your headers out)
-stall converter
-rear end gears (3.73's if daily driven)
-drag radials
-tuning for cam and gears
There is your 12 sec car. Have fun.

Totally agree. It's all about being smart and responsible about it. Street racing is great fun and can be nearly as safe as at the track, there's just always a time and a place for it (i.e. empty road late at night).
