you've probably got air in the system somewhere. have you messed with it recently?

My guess would be air in the system. I had a similar issue on my mother's old Lumina. Air got into the system and the coolant just didnt flow due to air pressure. I'm not sure what is the best way to get the air out, but a flush should do it.

just fill up the radiator and run the car w/ the cap off untill the thermostat opens. then fill it the rest of the way up and repeat a few times untill it will take no more coolant. its described in the owners manual. i put some cleaner in mine and ran it for a while, then flushed that **** out, then put good stufff in using the method described in the owners manual, been cooling like a champ ever since.

i took my overflow tank out and flushed the hell out of it. you have to take the battery out to get it but its no prob. i filled it up about half way and shook the hell out of it, then wrapped my blower nozzle from my compressor in a rag and put it in the fill hole and blew it all out the little tube. kept doing it till nothin but clean water would come out. i got system cleaner from advance autoparts and it worked pretty damn good.

Also MAKE SHURE the radiater cap is turned all the way on, Not just tight but ALL THE WAY ON.Some cars have a Green dot on the side of the radiater cap, this dot should face ether straight forward or be facing staight back.

that coolant system will get FAWNKY on you sometimes. has it turned into old faithfull yet? ive had mine randomly spray all the way to the top of the hood with the hood open!! i would start the process of filling i stated earlier with the car completly cold, dont fill up your overflow tank either.

i'd really hate for you to bring it to the dealership to have them tell you to put water in it lol. my cousin had her cavalier towed to the dealership for them to put some gasoline in it lol.

well your engine coolant temp guage isn't worth a damn, sorry, as long as your engine isn't melting down...its going to read about the same thing all the time. if you have white smoke in your exhaust, then you're getting coolant into your motor somewhere. as for the coolant not wanting to fill, i'd flush the system and try starting fresh, see if that helps.
