I know I'm being a smart *** but there are times when they are beneficial.

Thats also a rear wheel drive car, Maybe the rice should put the huge *** wing on the hood of the car to keep the power on the ground when they are going 200+ mph.

MR2's can be deadly with minimal mods.

Local one does 12.8 w/ 1.8 60's on street tires.

im asking, not telling. i want to know if it makes a big difference. so you can be a smartass.

and even if it does, i still think that is ugly as can be!!!!!!!! but if it is TRULY functional, i think i could live with it.

First, even if you take the wing off that viper you still have two different style rims on the left side. That is suspicious. Problem is that most wings you see on the street are meant to look like real wings that you'll see on race cars. I can't tell from the picture, but if you watch an SCCA or a petite le mans race you'll see wings like that. If they're set up correctly, bolted to the underlying structure of the car, ie. not the deck lid, then yes they can be functional. But don't forget, added downforce = increased drag. The type of wing that you'll see on your neighbors honda will create drag, but probably not downforce.

hehe no reason to be suspicious one set are his racing set I can't remember why he only had one set on each axle... He's pushing 600+rwhp right now and does participate in the Viper Challenge series.

And from what I've noticed most SCCA/LeMans wings are almost level with the roof of the vehicle. Example of a car that benefits from a wing that tall that's fwd is a honda del sol... notorious for rear float because of how the trunk area and rear window area is designed the higher spoilers change the airflow enough to help with downforce.

couple more pics of the viper...

Also I don't see how it is always necessary to attach to the major structure of a vehicle, if the spoiler is properly designed and mounted for the application (not a universal job) then it's benefits should still be apparent.

A spoiler on a car with such poor aerodyanimcs as a 98 Viper with a car that has an engine that could easily hit 190 needs a spoiler. The civic I posted above put on a spoiler that just added weight.

hehe his nickname for vipers is an engine stand with wheels.

The majority of FWD cars don't need rear spoilers especially the park bench wings.

You could also look at it this way. Aerodynamics aren't that important if you're snaking turns at a blistering 20mph...
