Default Did my Sparkplugs this weekend

After doing my spark plugs...OMG! What a difference, it's incredible my car was running at all. I have over 100K on my car now and from the looks of the plugs that came out they'd have to be the original. I'll try and post pic's but man O' man big difference! i'm sure i can hit 12's now just with that alone, my car woke up so much. Any way for those of you thinking about paying the $400+ for someone else to do this for you DON"T. It's definitly not as hard as it been made out to be!! I used the directions from INSTALL UNIVERSITY. Plug install guide

This was very easy even cylender #8. They say expect 8hrs..that's bullcrap, now I have a 2001 which does make it a bit easier b/c of my coil pack rail. After timming myslef beginning to end took me 2hrs and 50mins ~ 3hrs start to finish. Also i used NGK TR55's. They seem to be working great! If anyone has any questions on this topic feel free to PM me.

DAMN. You must drive a lot. 100k miles on an 01!?!?

Thanks for the info, I was worried about installing the plugs myself. Did you do wires too?

Ya i did do a **** load of driving b4, but i actually picked her up when she had 84,000 on her so most of it wasn't me. Not yet atleast, LOL. About the wires no i didn't change the wires b/c from my understanding the stock wires are really good b/c they are so short. But on the install guide they say that they aren't that good?? SO, i'd leave that decision up to you. I didn't bother b/c i was in a hurry and didn't want to order them $$.
Other than that *** Make sure you have a 3/8 drive U joint and one of those small 1/4 sets of rachets and sockets! it really helps out in the back on#8 cyc. Let me know how it goes! and GOOD LUCK!

I had my plug change down to 45min in my 98 Formula with practice.

I just did my plugs on my C5 yesterday in 45min without rushing or breaking a sweat. C5 plugs are all readily accessible. I'm sure I could do it in 30min with more practice (this was only my second plug change on the C5)

Yea once you do the plugs a few times it's an easy job Did mine a week ago in about 30 mins start to finish... though I have all my emissions crap removed

I found it's easiest if you remove the driver's side coil rack first, then take them all out through the top except #8 ... tackle that one from the bottom

first time I did the plugs I think it took me around 3 hours, that was removing the emissions stuff, changing the plugs w/stock manifolds (it's even easier w/headers), then putting it all back together torquing everyting w/a torque wrench (now I know how tight the stuff should go so I just do it by feel)

Get a spark plug socket, it's not required but makes life easier (I couldn't find mine last weekend when I changed plugs so I used a regular socket... more of a pain getting it positioned and pulling the plug out w/out dropping it... spark plug socket holds the plug in it)

Spark plug socket (3/8" drive), 3/8" socket wrench, and 1 or 2 extensions (maybe a small 1 or 1.5" one and one 2-3" one)

I did my plugs and wires 2 weeks ago.

I had been quote 600.00 to 700.00 from a performance shop and the dealer. I checked with pep boys and they wanted 350.00.

I decided to take the plunge. I am not new at changing plugs and wires (one of the simplest jobs) but the #8 had me worried.

It took me 3 hours with breaks in between. I had all 7 done in 1 hour and taking my time so as not to overlook anything or rush and break something. However, with all the crap by #8 I pulled the wire out of the boot

It took me 2 hours to finally get that sucker out. I did not go underneath and I wonder with stock shorties and cat if you could reach it even. But, I would probably do it again since the shops around here reach too deep into your pocket.

FYI I chose MSD 8.5 and NGK TR55 from Ram Chargers for around 85.00. I did the plug change at 37k miles.

What are the original spark plugs for our cars? The previous owner of my car, said he changed the spark plugs, but when I took it to the dealer to have the fuel injections cleaned, they checked the spark plugs and said they were the original and could still last me till 100,000 thousand miles. My car had 76,000 miles at the time I think. Recently I got the hpp3 and before, the car was feeling a little slugish, but since the hpp3 it feels more powerful. But I will look to change the spark plugs really soon.

I have changed spark plugs before, but I will soon look to get the spark plugs you guys are useing and I will go ahead and give it a shot and change my own spark plugs, you guys have given me encouragement. The dealer said it cost $500 dollars for the plugs and takes a whole day. I will be patient and will ask for advice here, if I get stuck when I change the spark plugs.

I find its easiest, on the passengers side, to take the coil packs off.
