Help with the bogggggging!
Hey guys, I have a friend who has a problem with her 02 Z28. Basically:
With 4.10 gears on ET Streets mounted on 9 in. rims launching at 5500 rpm I am bogging. Here is the scenario.
Went to 4.10s to help the bog I had with 3.73s. Started hitting the rev limiter at the end of the 1/8th with the 4.10s. I went to bigger tires to solve the rev limiter problem. However, the ET Streets have basically brought me back to 3.80s because of the height. The only thing new is the Spec III clutch with an aluminum flywheel.
Can anyone explain the "bog" problem.

If you let the clutch out too fast you are applying
more "brake" than the engine has brake torque. A
heavier flywheel will smooth this out some, but if
you want to not bog with the current setup then
you (or your friend) need to apply more clutch
finesse I think. Floor the gas and concentrate on
the clutch as the means of holding constant RPM,
rather than dumping the clutch and trying to hold
RPM with the throttle.
But I haven't driven a manual car in like 10 years
and the last one with any power was more like 30....

What I am having a hard time figuring out is why my friends 93 Cobra which is not making near the power of my car can launch the same way and cut 1.7 60' times. He has a little more gear than me but not that much.

wow i never heard of a fbody bogging on nittos with a 5000 rpm dump
is that at wot? or you bringing your rpms up dumping the clutch but waiting to floor it?
nittos on a 5k dump should go up in pillars of smoke....

thats right, i hetaed them up and them bitches bit and the car launched hard for the 1st ten feet maybe then fell on its face and bogged like hell as if it didnt have enough *** to pull it
my best 60' was letting the tires spin
someone chime in cuz im baffled, but i dont see how in the hell a 350hp car can be launched at 5 grand and not cut better than a 2.01 60' that is not traction limited ..... makes me wonder wtf is wrong with my car
to add insult to injury, my buddy cuts 1.7 60' in his 93 cobra dumping at 5 grand and his car aint making LS1 power

yeh but ramair... he said on NITTOS!!!! good grief... you right thats the first time i heard of dr's sticking like that....
i assume you have a 3.42 rear right?
there must be something else wronge...
unless they put a 3 inch thick coat of glue at your track then there is no way nittos dead hook at 5k clutch dump....!!!!
is there any hicup in your car when you are trying to burnout?
cause it sounds like your car is boggin because somethings wronge with IT not because you have that much traction...
to guage it , on nittos i dump at 3500 rpm (usually get 1.9-1.8) and even then its throttle controled and MIR is a really good track for prep...
on et streets or full slicks is when racers dump at 5k+
if you can get a vid of you launching ... i am totally puzzled...

nope your looking at the wronge guy...
glove person (post starter) is on et streets,
but full force (the guy i am talking to ) is on nitto dr's.
glove person just needs to bring his rpm up... but full force is dead hooking at 5k on nittos!

what can i say? maybe the track was that good .....
it feels EXACTLY like the ASR was on, but it wasnt ......
I have a brand new set of Nitto 245/50/16 Extreme Drag's, doing a healthy burnout and no the car does not bog when trying to do a burnout, launching the car at 5000. When it left I wouldnt even hear a bark from the tires but the car would take off hard from the clutch being let off of at 5k, and after leaped forward its like it just didnt have enough momentum and speed going to keep the rpm's up and it bogged like hell.
Is any chance that the ASR would still work even when turned off in the event of trying to side step the clutch at 5000? I wouldnt think so, but something aint right.
Bottom line is the car wouldnt cut any better than a 2.01 60'. I was hoping for 1.8's atleast. Im gonna try to do some different launching tecniques next time.
