analog gauges are like analog clocks...numbers and a pointer. digital gauges use LED number displays.

MOST (not all) digital gauges suck.... don't bother. everyone and their mother uses regular autometer gauges.

Check out some of Dakota Digital's applications. They have some nice stuff.

I wouldn't say that digital = Rice either. There are many cases in which a digital gauge is far superior to an analog. Analog is good for tach and speedo, so you can see how fast the rpm's and speed are going up, so you can anticipate shift points and what not.

Handheld scanner---digital
Auto gauges---analog

Just a style preference. Dakota Digital gauges look like something that should be on the outside of a fridge or computer.

Digital gauges are excellent for things like temperatures and pressures - anywhere the exact number is important to you. If you buy good ones (and quality senders!), they are far more accurate than an analog gauge will ever be. Nordskog makes some pretty nice ones...

Since I like seeing the needles sweep, I could never use a digital speedo or tachometer - but that's just me.

How is a digital gauge more rice than an analog gauge?

WTF?

Rice means making your car look faster than it is. I don't see how a digital gauge is rice.

What about the HUD on corvettes? Is that also rice?

technical, that comment was

In my defense I've never used that smiley before. So translate the "rice" from my post into "ugly".

Therefore the: older vettes, dakota digitals, and what z98 posted, *IMO*, are ugly.
As I stated, it's just a style preference.

edit: as a matter of fact, the odo and trip on my f-body suck too

If you look around Dakota Digital's site, you'll find some nice billet pieces.

Here is an example:

It's a better looking piece than the one z98 posted, but I'm just not feeling either one.
