5 qt of oil is it enough???
When I change my oil 5 qt is what the engine needs. No more no less.
Everybody says 5.5 qt but that much would overfill mine.
Can somebody explain this to me please???
I use M1 0w-40 and K'N oilfilter.

What PN oil filter are you running? Long or short version? With the long K&N filter it's about 6 qts to fill mine up. Using the stock AC Delco filter it took 5.5. Are you allowing the car to sit on level ground when it's draining? Maybe your not getting all the old oil out.

The 4.8L in the truck takes 6 quarts, and I've heard others say they need a little over 6 to 6 1/2 quarts to fill up.

Crankcase Oil and filter change:
3800 V6..................4.5 qts
5.7 V8..................5.5 qts
Now the 5.3 liter in my 00 Z-71 holds 6qts
All of these capacities are with the factory PN oil filter

huh? My GM service manual says 5.5 quarts with standard filter. And that's exactly what mine takes, Amsoil . Going by your dipstick is always good, but too much oil will cost you horsepower. The more oil in the crank case, the more drag on the crankshaft, therefore less power - especially high RPM. Put about 8 quarts in and go for a spirited run

LOL these motors aren't going to lose any horses just cuz you're running an extra half quart. if you're running a road race, its SUGGESTED to run at LEAST 6. i run 6 every day of the week. my motor hasn't complained yet.
