Straight question buy*** LT1 SS 97 or LS1 99 up?**
What I know is that LT1 has more torque than LS1. Both of them have same internal looks. But the engine is different every one know that. I heard that LT1 is cheaper that LS1 in mods and more companies offer performance parts. Be honest which one to buy and has less problems and for daily driver + mods?

Dude, if you search you will find lots of long threads on this ... but here goes anyway: I've owned both (94 and 00 Formulas). Stock to stock, the LS1 will be quicker. But the biggest issue is driveability and reliability. The LT1 optispark is a dumb-*** design that makes for nasty headaches. Beyond that, I find numerous reports of unsolvable driveability problems on LT1 forums. You almost never hear those kind of problems from LS1 owners. The LS1 is also much easier to work on. The LT1 is already in the dustbin of engineering history; the LSx is now and the future.

LS1. It responds better to mods. It also has the aftermarkets interest and we will all see more and more parts available for them, whereas the LT1 parts are not going to be develpoped on the same level.

A common misconception is that the LT1 produces more torque than the LS1. This is simply not true. The LT1 feels like it has more lowend torque as it's torque peak is vastly lower around 2500rpms where as the LS1 makes peak torque at 4400rpms. A stock LS1 will make more rwtq than any stock LT1 ever would. HP is simply in the LS1's favor 300rwhp stock to 250-270rwhp LT1 stock. Also consider the LT1's optispark problems and the fact the motor itself is not as smooth as an LS1 is. LT1 parts are cheaper but you do not get the power increase like a similar modded LS1.
Add Intake, Catback, Longtubes and other small boltons to an LT1 and you are now even with a bone stock LS1! That should be you judgement right there. The LT1 cars are also getting alot older and trying to find one that hasn't been beat to hell is getting harder.

What's wrong with the 98 LS1? I belive the 98-99 have no changes and the 99 still has the egr, I may be mistaken though. I like my 98 even though I have a fu**** squeeking pulley -I think-, that has just arrived and have to wait till Monday to find what is causeing the squeek, before blaming anybody/product.

Yeah you could also get a 98. I have a 98 and bought it brand new. It has been a daily driver and haven't had any issues. Getting close to 100,000 miles and still have stock clutch. Water pump still good. I haven't had to replace anything but maintenance stuff (plugs, oil, fluids). There LS1s are very reliable.

The 1997 SS was rated 310fwhp @ 335fwtq these are flywheel numbers not what a dyno will show at the rear wheels. Most LS1's will dyno stock 300rwhp - 320rwhp and 300rwtq - 330rwtq. Of all the LT1's i've seen most stock 6pds hit around 255rwhp and 280rwtq. The 96 @ 97 SS's @ Firehawks are a little stronger making 260-265rwhp @ 300rwtq. One of my old friends had an 96 Z28 6spd with K@N CAI, LT4 KM, TB airfoil, BBK TB, Hooker LT's @ ORY thru an open cutout made 297rwhp @ 307 rwtq. My SS for comparison made 315rwhp @ 326rwtq bone stock.

Hey dude. Before I got my T/A, I was in the exact same boat as you. I recommend the ls1:
*Will have higher resale value
*Faster out of the box
*Easier to work on
*More reliable/less problem (sans-optispark!)
*Better looking front fascia (IMO)
*More likley to find one with lower mileage
I strongly suggest you check out the first thread, it is right on the money and it got lots of replies, so it should have a plethora of juicy information for you.
