Default cold start problems

Well, I am having some cold stat problems. These things only happen when it is below freezing outside. I went out last night (prob about 15 degrees) to move my car under the carport. I turned the lights on and my drivers side headlight would not come up. I found this to be very weird as this has not happened before. I disregarded it believing it to be frozen. I got back up today around noon and went outside to see if it would work. I get nothing. So I decided to start the car and let it warm up to see what would happen. In the mean time of starting it this morning, my rpm, speed, and gas guage shot up like a rocket, then came back down with the gas guage going up once again to find its correct level. The guages has done this to me on one other occassion (when it was very cold out). Also, my trip odometer reset itself. So, I decided to let the car get up to OP temperature to see what would happen. I went out about 10 minutes later and bam! Everyhting works properly, even the freakin head light. I shut it off and back on. The guages didn't move like they had before (were normal) and the headlight was working fine. WTF is going on here?

Thanks

Your headlight was probably frozen. As for the gauges, the 99's are notorious for acting up in the cold. There was a bug or something in the manufacturing process for the gauges that year, and they tend to lose power overnight in the cold. Most people only complin about reset trip odometers, not necessarily swinging gauges.

My 1999 Firebird driver side headlight always acted up when it was below 20 degrees fahrenheit.

So should I worry about it or just not pay any attention to it and go on as normal? It definately sucks, I can tell you that.

Im not really sure there's anything you can do about either problem. I guess you could replace the gauge cluster, and have it reset to the correct milage, but I think you have to visit a dealership for it, and theyre gonna charge you alot of cash.

The mileage is ok. It's the trip setting that resets itself

The milage wont be okay if you order a new gauge cluster... they have to sync it up with the milage setting in the BCM. (milage is stored both places)
