Must be the color of our cars that makes them stronger. Mine is Silver too

When I got the car, it had a flowmaster catback. I installed a lid and went to the track. Ran 14.7@104mph with a 2.1 60' ... haha, I spun pretty bad when I hit second second gear Put nittos on and ran 13.5 @ 104mph with the same 60', 2.1. Since then I put 4.10's, LT's w/ true duals, spec 3 clutch and it feels a ton stronger Haven't went to the track or dyno since.

Not totally true, '01-'02 still have AIR.......

I really don't like the updated window trim on the '01/'02 (it's flat black trim on the rear hatch glass and windsheild, looks faded. '98-'00 have shiny trim). Also the '98-'00 cars get a better rearview mirror.

I'm happy as hell with mine and because of the color, it would take alot to get it away from me. Also see mods and time in sig. Haven't had a problem with it so far. Good luck on your decision.

Get an 01-02 if you can, but an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1.

i bought mine last march with only 28k miles. for the price and mileage there was simply no way i could find a newer one in that condition.

besides, all i really wanted was an aluminum block and a 6-speed, and i got it. when it comes time to mod i dont at all feel that i'm handicapped by having a 98.

i do like that our cars do not have the 'black box', and have a somewhat functional temp gauge, and i think we also have a little bit better baffled fuel tank. about the only thing i dont care for from a modding/time aspect are the darn perimeter bolt heads and individually mounted coils, but that will go away when i get better heads.

If you get an LS1, never get one that is modded morethan just a lid and cat back. IMO!

Agreed. Bone stock is even better. I got my 98 because it only had 19k miles on it at the time. 37k now.

I bought my mine with a flowmaster cat-back. As you can tell I still havent done much (Poor college student) I dont regret my buy whatsoever. Stock for Stock it MIGHT be a little slower, but in the end it doesnt matter. 84k miles and still running as strong as the day I bought it.

While on 98's ... what exactly IS the hp rating on the non ws6 ta? Some sites say 305, some say 310 and some 320 ... i'm confused. I guess it really doesnt matter, i'd just like to know though.

I didn't read all the replies, but here are stats on my '98 Z28 A4.

With LT's, duals, lid, CAI, and ET streets (also !FSB, !rear seat, !spare and jack) it ran the numbers in sig. (1.726, 8.036, 12.626) Not too shabby if you ask me. Hopefully I can post up some 11's in the next few weeks and solid 11's when I add the pully and LS6 intake.

I have not had any problems with mine besides the stupid widnow motors. Car has 58k miles right now and I went ahead and replaced the oil pump with the cam swap I finished last week.

My buddy just got a 2002 ws6 a4, and his doesnt SEEM near as powerful as mine, but his track numbers as VERY close, and my car has $2500 in mods? I know that the main difference is the ls6 intake and better flowing heads. But have YOU been satisfied with your 98, or found yourself wishing you had gone with a newer year. The reason for this post is before I put too much more money in this car, should I stay with the 98 or sell and get vette or 2000 newer ls1? So for you 98 guys out there let me know your thoughts.

David
Your car is a 6 speed, your friend's is an a4. driving a manual requires skill, driving an a4 does not. kep what you have and learn to drive it. Just curious...what does your car run? my '02 WS6 was running 13.2's with a lid/cutout on a 2.0 60'. I hope to run 13.4's in my GTO (6 speed) on the same 60'.

I hate my 98 and its working temp gauge, no piston slap, and not burning oil.

I've put over 40K on my car, trouble free.
