I'm very happy with mine, burns no oil, haven't heard any piston slap yet. I've only had it a little less than a month now though, so no times or dyno numbers. Should have dyno numbers this month and track numbers whenever the strip opens.

Of course, I'm a mile above sea level, so that adds a little over a second toi my Et's, usually more cause DA seems to sit around 7500ft.

I have a 98 TA, when I had my 00 Camaro i said the same thing about the 98's... I wasnt intrested in them for a number of reaons: they where the first year of production which most likely means more things will go wrong on it, since they are 7 year old cars they have more miles say a 02 car would ( not always the case) the most different between the 98s and the rest are: smaller gas tanks, the 98s had 15 gall, and the 99-02 had 16 gall. 99-02 had the Torsen Diff.01-02 had LS6 intake, bigger manifolds. Of course diff cam specs. Check out stardard catalog of Camaro 1967-2002 and stardard catalog of Firebird 1967-2002, they have all the info on what years had what options and so forth. Im actually happy with my 98 TA, it has 100K and still running strong. It was the only LS1 powered F-body in my city, so I had to take what i could get, which Im happy I did. I havent takin my car to the track to see what it runs, but im safe to say somewhere in the mid to low 13s.

Very happy with my 98. With a MTi lid and a Borla it ran a 13.6 @ 102 with a 2.17 sixty foot. Also, pulled a best mph that day of 105 holding it in 3rd and hitting rev limiter right at the 1/4 mark. Clutch was also slipping pretty bad.

I love my 98 TA. No oil burning, engine doesn't miss a beat. With a lid, K&N, Headers, Loud mouth, Suspension stuff and a moser 9"(4.11s) I hit a 12.6 @110 mph w/ a 1.8 60' on DRs. I'm running on slicks next year.

Oddly enough, all this talk about piston slap reminds me that both my '99 and '00 had the slap (albeit pretty minor though) but my '98 doesn't have it at all (thankfully). Also, '98 wasn't really the "1st" year for these cars. The interior came out in '97 Camaros, the motor came out in '97 Vettes, and most of the body came out in '93 (minus the obvious cosmetic changes in '98).

I took an odd course. I bought my '99 Z28 new, sold it a year later to get an '00 WS6 (new). Then, a few months after I sold the WS6 in '04, I decided I wanted another Camaro so I started looking at all '98-'02 V8 models. I looked at over a dozen cars before I found the '98 I have now. It was BY FAR in the best condition, only 11K miles, 100% stock, original owner with every scrap of paperwork, perfect weather ONLY car, and a great price because of the age. Only 30 miles from my house too.

Condition and mileage were my top priorities as I did and do still intend to continue using it as a perfect weather cruiser only....

Definitely NO REGRETS whatsoever on my '98. Bought it in Janaury stock w/ 49K miles; have 54K on it now. I love it to death!

With basically just a lid and catback as the only "performance mods", on stock chassis and suspension pieces, and all-season street tires, my best so far is 13.300 @ 107.12 m.p.h... with just a lid and catback, on street tires. Oh, and that's also with just regular granny shifting too. I haven't even attempted to powershift yet, so with succesful powershifts you could probably take off another .1 of a second. AND I know I could have gone quicker had the night at the track not been cut short. Oh well, only a few more months until track time again.

Not too shabby for a practically stock '98 if you ask me!

4/10ths of a second in the 1/8th mile is not close to the same time, as you stated in your original post

mods, track times and dyno numbers in sig.

my car doesn't burn any oil at all, the motor is VERY quiet (when warm obviously) and i've been told my car is probably one of the stronger '98s in terms of ET and dyno #s.

i have no regrets at all...

I love my 98 T/A. I bought it with 17k miles on it and have near 61k now. Very few problems, though the clutch has a few issues at the moment. Maybe need a new slave cylinder. Anyway, I had it on a Dynojet Model 248h chassis dynamometer all stock except for a catback (slp loudmouth) and it put out 299 (corrected hp) to the wheels. This spring I'll be adding pacesetters lts, mti lid (finally!), and a spec stage 2 clutch. I can't wait!

I have noticed that us 98ers typically have the lowest mileage on out cars. Weird.

I like my 98 its responded very well to the simply mods I've done and my liscense plate may say ,1998 is 2 slow (abbriveated of course), but I'll have you seeing my rear tail lights if you try to rice by me. So in the end the 1998 Camaro is a great year.

darbydarby..... I like your line up! I've been thinking about adding a hardtop LT1 Z28 to my line up in the future as well.

I got my 98 Z28 brand new back in Jan 98. It ran 13.2 @ 108 IIRC bone stock. Weather was perfect on a great track. Since then added mods in sig. Has been super reliable. 100,000 miles problem free. Still has original clutch in it along with original water pump and alternator. Can't believe these haven't gone yet. Next mods are Cam and LS6 intake. Bottom line is 98s are great.

My Formula ran 13.52 @ 104 with just a Dynomax.... A4/2.73 gears.

Dyno was 296.4 hp / 314.9 tq (7/27/03)

I changed the gears to 3.42s and it runs 13.33 @ 106 mph now.

I'm getting ready to do some more major mods this year, but I'm been mainly focusing on getting the body/paint back up to showroom condition before I do any more power mods.

Last year, I pretty much focused on getting the suspension and brakes up to snuff... this year is making it go faster. I need a solid 12-second car, and it shouldn't be hard to do from where I am.

headers/cam/converter are my plans.
