Default Rattling/Pinging sound at idle and low RPM

Last night after driving home from work, I noticed a rattling noise coming from the engine bay that immediately made me think my engine was pinging. No SES light, car drives fine, etc. Scanned the car on the way to work this morning and no KR and the LTFTs were just a touch negative like they should be.

When I get home tonight from work, I hear the same noises again. This is after a fresh tank of gas and 100 miles driven on that tank. The tank before this I used some fuel injector cleaner (FP60 from Lube Control). This new tank of gas I did not use the cleaner.

Any thoughts on this? What should my next step be if after running through this tank of gas doesn't help anything? If the engine is pinging, shouldn't I be seeing some KR?

Thanks all...

Well I have some exhaust leaks coming from my y-pipe, so and I know that is what the ticking is that I hear...but this is different. It is a definate sound like a marble rattling around in the engine which I have read is often associated with pinging.

Mine does this also. I know the spark plugs need to be changed and fuel filter also. Mine has 64,000 on the clock.

I regularly change my fuel filter and recently did the plugs...I suppose I could change the fuel filter again just to be sure...it is cheaper than plugs.

this will sound stupid but what weight and kind of oil are you running? i had the same problem on my 98z. id take off from a stop sign or get on it and id get the same rattling sound and when the the car sat and idled it sounded like crap. first thing i did was put good gas in it since my girlfriend put the cheap junk in and it still did it then i found out when i was out of town she took it to walmart and had the oil changed. they used a fram filter and regular pennzoil 5w30. i went and picked up a supertech filter and some castrol syntech 5w50 put it in and it killed the rattling. car is quieter than i ever remember. before i put the 5w50 in i was getting a lot of crap about the 50 it was to heavy for winter. 10 degree temps and car fired up perfect with the pennzoil idling warm my oil pressure was at like 22 and now car can be hot and stay idling at 40 psi. try it i was just about to get rid of it but not now. ifeel like a punk using the 5w50 but i dont know if ill ever go lighter again. oil or filter dont know which suicked but ill stay away from both

Ive heard FRAM filters don't let ANY oil to the valvetrain, so maybe it could be the valvetrain.........change the oil filter and see if that helps

I have used Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic from the first oil change and I bought the car new. I have also only used the high grade K&N oil filters. So only the best has gone into my car.

I have not heard the noise the past two trips in the car...so hopefully it is gone and it was just bad gas
