l98 vs LT1 vs Ls1
Of course the L98 245hp < LT1 275hp < Ls1 310hp, but how would you compare the power of the engines at low RPM? People say the LT1 has more low end grunt than the LS1, but what about the L98? I'd like to hear from people who have drive all three motors.

Driven/owned all three here...
The L98 was severly limited because of the intake design (upper RPMs) and the automatic transmission. The LT1 is a very noticable difference, and IMO has a lot more down low right off of idle than the LS1. The LS1 though, comes on strong, and doesn't give up.
So what I'm saying is, with time and technology, the best of the best is what is available now.

MY GTA would pull hard through first and second, but third gear it would fall flat on it's face. That car hooked really well, never spun just took off. My fathers 95 Formula would pull hard all the way through, reved higher and just felt more powerful where the L98 fell off(around 4500). The LS1 hands down the best of the three.

I've driven all three, owned just an LS1. From what I can remember from the seat of the pants meter the L98 didn't feel as strong down low as the LT1 and LS1 did. The one I drove was an '89 IROC with 2.73's though. What other gear ratios came with the L98 motor?

The 305 LB9 mated to a 5 speed could be had with 3.08 or 3.45 gears. 3.08 and 3.42's were then the choices when it went back to the 10 bolt.

I also have owned all three: 2 GTAs, 2 1993 Z-28s, 1 2001 Z-28. I agree with the general consensus: 1) the L98 was very torquey but would fall on its face above 4000 rpm--1/4 mile: 15.2 @ 93. 2) The LT1 was also very torquey down low and would pull hard through the midrange and would then fizzle out around 5000 rpm--1/4 mile: 13.9 & 14.1 @ 100. 2) The LS1 has more than enough torque down low, but also has tremendous midrange and top-end power. Pulls strong all the way to 6000 rpm--1/4 mile: 13.0 @ 110.
All 1/4 mile times are with bone stock vehicles.

LS1 is the best motor of all three...but if you want to go fastest for the cheapst..LT1 is a better bet for a car/motor. Lt1 cars are so damn cheap now adays I don't even see a price difference worth going to the L98 cars to mod into the 10's.

Nothing can compare to the tree pulling low end torque of a L98..if people tell you otherwise they're on crack. Just like everyone else stated the L98 will fall flat on it's face over 4K or so.
The L98 is still a great, reliable street car motor.
