I had a dream that I had the video of me and some of my friends doing high speed runs. Video showed a on ramp run up to about 140 as we pass a friend on a F4 CBR 600, go into a long curve stay at like 130(the best part if you ask me), exit the curve and ride out to 163 GPS verified hit rev limiter and let out, I turned to see the other car roll pass us still at 160 or so and I get him in the shot. Well we all slow down and determine where the 3 am meal would be had. As we get to Denny's we got a lovely street racing ticket from the cop at Denny's and never broke 35 mph(long story) Guy on the bike shows up and enlightens us that we passed a couple cops at 160+ and the quick flash back to see the video verified it. They hit the breaks and that's all we saw. Scary dreams I be having.

I just bought my 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS-6 A4 on June 30th. I took it to the track last night, ran a 8.995 @ 85.39 mph 1/8 mile (bear in mind that the car is bone stock and I was running in the FL heat). On the way home I'm cruising down 1-4 coming from Lakeland, FL with my brother-in-law and we come up on a late 80s model Impala SS. As we get nose to nose he indicates that he wants to run. My brother-in-law yells "Hit it", so I smash the pedal to the floor and never let off. I'm watching the road as he's calling out 125, 130, 135 and I look down as we hit 140 and I see that the car is running at 5900 rpm and the car redlines at 6000. I decide to let off and right before my foot comes off the pedal, the car shifts. It was too late and I had already let off the gas. I couldn't believe it, I still had a gear to go. I was amazed with how quickly we jumped up to those speeds. It felt like we were going 90-95. Wow, what a rush. Oh yeah, the Impala caught up about a mile down the road after I slowed down.

It may redline at 6000, but the rev limiter is at 6200, and that is conservative. No reason to let off until you hit the rev limiter! I have mine set at 7000, and that is conservative also. But I have upgraded valve train and rod bolts. M6 cars actually have a higher top speed in 5th gear than 6th gear; not sure about A4's.

A4's top out in fourth gear. Fourth (OD) in an A4 is almost exactly the same ratio as fifth in an M6. Only thing that makes them a little different overall is the axle ratio.

A few years back I was driving to colorado and there was this nice, long, flat open road. So, I decided to give the car some pressure. The car was completely stock except for an airbox and k&n filter. The last time I checked i was at 135 and climbing, but then i hit a small bump and the back end started to sway. I decided to shut it down after that b/c i just felt the car was not safe enough to be driving at those kind of speeds. I would do it again in a heart beat if I had a roll cage, better suspension and improved braking system.

With that said, I cant say that i slow-poke around, i tend to drive with an average speed between 85 to 90, you just dont know you are there. There are many times when i am headed to work and I look down and my speedo is above 100, so i shut it down to 80, then I increase the speed b/c i feel like I could crawl faster. It's just a vicious circle...lol.

All I can say to those reading this is to be safe and know your car, I have had mine for many years and know it and my driving abilities very well. In fact i get in trouble when driving my wife's bmw b/c I am use to the extra torque that allows me to jump out and pass slower cars ahead

So is the 390 rwph what the car dynoed when you did 185 mph? Also, do you know what the elevation is in the area where you went 185?

I've hit 130ish before, running late for church out of all things. North Georgia's too hilly to get much more stupider, never know where Smoky's gonna be sittin.

Add to that the fact that we don't have any long straights... but then we do have some good twisty roads.

I switched from 3.73's to 4.10's and havent changed the speedo yet. I was heading back from the lake and I got into a race with BMW of some kind. I gunned it and by the end of 4th i didnt know how fast i was goin cuz the speedo was saying 155. We pull over at a gas station. Guy said he was somewhere near 175. Scariest thing i ever did hear.

If you went to higher gears the speedometer would read higher than you actually were. On an M6 with 4.10's 6500 rpm in fourth gear is only 121 mph. I am guessing on the redline you have with the cam. 6800 would yield 127mph.

i hit 150 the other night on a long *** bridge. ive had the speedo pegged on both my cars (96 TA and 99 Formula), both modded. but i dont know exactly how fast my top speed is. my speed limiter is removed with ls1edit, but im sure the speedo is a little inaccurate at such high speeds. its fun and exhilerating regardless.

It is. I did a qualifying run through the speed trap at Bonneville at 125 mph and the speedo was right on. Right after that, I ran through the trap at 155 mph indicated (last mark on the speedo) and got a slip for 160.959 mph.

After reading all these post I'm confused about what mph I hit in each gear. Last night I hit 110 in fourth at 5400 rpm, does this sound right? I have a M6 with stock 3.42 gears. What mph should I beable to do in 4th at 6000rpm. I m starting to worry that there is something wrong with my car at speeds over 100. The fastest I have had it to is 125 in 5th and I think it was under 5500 rpms. I always figured 4th would go to 115-120 then 5th would go to 135-140 then 6th would go the rest of the way. Is this right? I'm also afraid to go over 130 with my tires.

You had the right mph, but wrong car....you need the Delorean for that.
